Is it rude to speak while dragging a pot?

Someone told me this last night, never heard it before. And I'm not talking "ha-ha" type [censored] either.

i would imagine saying something like "[censored] all you [censored]" would consitute as rude.. but i cant imagine the idea of just talking being rude.

Never heard this before. Ridiculous notion that saying anything at all would be considered rude.

It depends on what you say. I could see how an opponent might be offended if you say anything related to the hand, but if you are talking about something non-poker related, that should be fine.

Did the person tell you that anything other than absolute silence is rude? Or, did they tell you that what you said was rude?

Just that absolute silence is best. I might sometimes say smoething like "Ugh, I'd have lost more with your hand." or "Bad luck" or [censored] like that. Obviosuly when I know the guy hates me I won't say anything because I try to keep people from hating me/taking shots at me etc.

But I can't imagine dragging a pot and talking about the weather. That seems retarded.

I usually just say "Thanks [insert dealer's name]" as I toss him/her the tip.

If you just laid a nice beat on a WPT douche then I believe "Ship It!" is standard.

Some people who lose at anything get offended very easily. They are poor sportsmen, but even though that is their problem, I avoid aggravating them by not saying anything related to the hand or the win. Not even "tough break" or "you played that well", or "sorry for the suckout" etc. as some people get annoyed no matter what you say or with some, you can't tell what will bother them.

I don't say anything unless I am already in a conversation- I don't stop speaking just because I am dragging a pot. If it has been a quiet table, I don't say anything unless I am thanking the dealer or acknowledging their thank you for the toke.

I usually don't say anything related to the hand. Just announce my hand, table it, and if I win, thank the dealer while tossing them a tip.

There really is no need to say anything about the hand. If it was a decent sized pot, then I'm guessing your opponent doesn't feel like chatting about it. If anything, maybe compliment your opponents play by saying something like "nice job checking behind on the river. I was planning to check-raise". Of course, this is usually obvious and best left unsaid.
