<font color="#CC3333">SB bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero ....

I usually raise in this situation to drive draws out behind me but I've seen posters recommend calling before and I'd like to understand why. Is it because of the small pot and the fact that we don't really need to protect our hand?

No. Fold.

...your text font is red probably because you didn't close the color setting that made the betting action red.

Yeah, hand protection is not a huge issue here. Flush draws won't go away (if anyone happens to have one -- and as far as that goes, SB is a likely candidate), and if we're ahead of SB, that means anyone holding 7x may be sharing outs with him. (They may both be chasing the case 7 and whatever their kickers are.)

And although we wouldn't mind driving a wheel gutshot out, if we happpen to be ahead, no one's really that likely to have one, and we don't really hate having a wheel gutshot call either.

And part of the reason for this is in fact that the pot is small.

Is this really a clear fold? Would calling and betting a non club on the turn be ok?

I don't think it's a clear fold. (I don't have a strong opinion as far as that goes, actually.)

Anyway, though, if you call and get checked to on a non-club turn, then, yeah, sure, bet.

Edit: Actually, if you got checked to HU on the turn, you should probably bet any card, including a club, with your top pair.

I don't think it's abundantly clear. It would be clearer if you were in later position and there was an overcaller or especially two overcallers who weren't calling stations.

folding is terrible. u have top pair, nobody's shown any strength and everyone in the pot probably sucks

Folding isn't clear but I do believe is the correct action. Your OOP with no reads, in a small pot, with 2 players yet to act, with a next to nothing kicker on your TP, facing a bet.

There was no preflop raise, so that sort of seems good for our hand.

Meanwhile, though, there is the question of what SB needs to have to bet into three people here. I'd be hoping 7x and PPs were part of that range, but if those get checked and he just bets Ax or a flush draw, then the situation begins looking less favorable.

I don't like the idea of folding too much, but I'm out of touch with how 3/6 unknowns play right now.
