Alternatives to eBay for antique sales?
 
Are there any alternatives to eBay that are at all popular or worthwile for selling antique furniture?

If you're looking to sell..

An actual antiques fair is probably the best bet, as generally antiques are quite expensive there. So you stand to make more than you probably would on ebay.

You could also try local antique centers/markets that take a small percentage of each sale. They basically do all the work for you.

I mentioned a local auction house because furniture is something that's tough to sell properly online. People need to be able to see it, and you really don't want to deal with shipping. Antiques fairs are good too, on consignment.

A lot depends on if you know what you have. Just because it's old doesn't mean you have something. Consult a local expert to come look at it, or if it's small enough, take it to them. Someone who knows what they're doing can tell you more in 5 minutes on an informal basis than you can learn in days of research. Don't worry about looking like a fool, people bring absolute crap to experts all the time, they're used to it. If you have a gem, they'll be more than happy to deal with you.
