Trying to move up to 1/2
 

Is 1/2 much harder than .5/1? I recently tried moving up and I didn't do to well (-1.27BB/100 for 8500 hands). I've been doing great at .5/1 (3.71BB/100 for 10,700 hands) and I'd just like to know if this could be variance? Did I try moving up too early? Could my win rate at .5/1 be variance? It seemed that the games were a little more aggressive. Should I adjust my stategy a little next time I try and move up?

I say it's variance.

Personally I suffered a bad streak myself when I moved up to $1/2 for about 7,000 hands. Then in the next 3,000 my luck seemed to turn around and I kept a good 6 BB/100 the whole time.

The games are pretty much the same, and any adjustments I made (if any) were minor.

Keep studying and play your best.

I think the biggest step in poker is from .5/1 to 1/2. After that it's just tiny jumps.

BTW - 3.7BB/100 in .5/1 is not GREAT, it's good but not GREAT.

6BB/100 is Great. in 1/2 3BB/100 is GREAT 2BB/100 is good.

I keep moving up as bankroll permits (400bb). I just bonuswhore so if it goes bad I at least have some money coming in. I beat .50/1 for about 2-3BB/100 (about 40,000-50,000 hands) and I recently started playing 2/4 and 3/6 and can at least hang, winning slightly (10,000-15,000 hands). With bonuses I bring in decent winnings and I am nowhere near as good as most posters here. However, I am not going any higher until I prove I can honestly beat these levels for a good win rate. Keep posting these guys can teach you alot I feel like I get better everyday since I seriously started posting here.

4 BB / 100 at .5/1 is pretty damn good. I highly doubt more than about 0.1% are sustaining 6 BB / 100, even with the fishiness that ensues at .5/1.

I think 1/2 has a good number of solid players. There's still a lot of fish, but you'll run into more solid players more often at 1/2. There are some players making pretty good side cash at 1/2 from winnings, bonuses, and rakeback without risking a large amount, so 1/2 is kind of a safe place to hang for them.

.5/1 to 1/2 is the hardest transition to make for micro-limit plays, you don't have people paying you off for your monsters anymore and the field is different,

but if you are winning 3.7bb/11k hands for .5/1 i don't see why you shouldn't give it a try, but it is a different game,

but i fyou lost -1.27 for 8k hands for 1/2 i don't think that's all variance, i think it's time to post more and take a look at your game more,

how often do you CC PF? what do you do in multiway pots with 2nd pair? etc....

wow?? no 1/2 for you?!?! O.o

anyways, if you are losing -1.2bb/100 for 8k hands, it may help to use poker patterns to see what is going on, did you lose a lot of bb at one session and is constantly increasing ? or do you drop and rise drop and rise many times?

I rarely ever CC preflop. Multiway pots with 2nd pair I'll call if I think my five outs are good, and raise depending on the bettors position. As for your other questions, I think I lost a lot on a couple of sessions and then I was dropping and rising a lot. I know tilt was definately a facor. Thanks.
