BJ - ties win.
 

Don't ask me where I found this, it is from an online RPG that I play and there is no real money involved.

Generally speaking, how is blackjack strategy affected when ties win for the house ? Part of me doubts if this type of game is beatable at all. With high true count you will encounter 20/20 scenarios much more often. Since this is no longer a push, this probably negates the advantage of a positive count.

In the specific game I found, these are the rules:

Dealer stands on soft 17
Double 10,11 only
Double after split allowed
No surrender
Dealer doesn't have a hole card.
Ties win for the house.
6 deck shoe with 80-85% penetration.

Most of the rules suck, but the penetration is good, and spread is 1-10000. Since no real money is involved, heat is of no concern. Is it possible to develop a strategy that beats this game ?

In the game you describe, the dealer usually exposes both cards (hence, "no hole card") before the player plays. The strategy is close, and the player can get a slight advantage. I've seen the game under a number of names -- it was first described by Richard Epstein as "Zweikartenspiel".

Sorry, I probably didn't express myself clearly. In this game the dealer is only dealt one card to start, face up.
Natural blackjack for the player still pays 3 to 2, but otherwise you can still end up losing even with 21, if you make it in 3 cards or more.

This seems to be the standard blackjack game for charity "casino nights." Don't play it unless you're feeling charitable.

I have made a killing playing at these charity events when the dealers are volunteers and they seem to have trouble not flashing their down card when dealing. I played once at one that had a $5 max bet and I took them for $300 in 2 hours. I was playing like I was very very drunk so when I would hit on sometimes like a 17 or 18 or stay on a 14 when the dealer was face up no questions were asked. Helped that my buddies filled out the table and were truely drunk. If you were wondering I didn't tell my buddies until afterwards that the dealer was flashing his down card to me everytime so that they wouldn't blow it.

Out of curiosity, what kind of charity was this? I would hate to think that we were, you know, like $300 away from curing cancer and missed out.
