DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
I liked the trade when it went down in spring training. I like the trade even better now. He has a good attitude that fits in with this team.
Starts: 5 Wins: 4 IP: 34.2 Hits: 25 Homeruns: 5 ERA: 2.34 BB: 7 Ks: 30 BAA: .195 WHIP: 0.92 |
Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
How's he doing in the +/- Home Runs category?
|
Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
You'll be letting me look soon enough.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
Averaging more than a homer a start isn't a good sign.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
Everybody allows at least 1 HR per start in that bandbox of a stadium.
I knew we'd regret letting that kid go. |
Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
I always thought Arroyo was under rated. He's not a fire ball pitcher so he doesn't get the respect maybe he deserves. His corn rows were effin stupid though.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
The Sports Guy notes that going from AL to NL really makes pitchers look good. Pedro can't throw 80 mph any more, but he's competing for the Cy Young Award.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
This guy is throwing a SICK slider right now. I don't remember seeing anything like it back when he pitched for Boston.

Oh, by the way, if you want to know the source of his rejuvenation, lefties are batting .177 against him. Over his career, they've batting .275.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
You point out his line of stats, which are quite, but the one thing you emphasise is his wins? In any team sport, 1 position getting credit for a "win" is completely stupid.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
Don't look now (part 2):
Tonight Arroyo moves to 5 and 0 with a complete game 4 hit outing. On a sidenote, I saw Wilo Mo Pena fly out to center with the bases loaded in a 3 - 3 game in the bottom of the 7th tonight against the Yankees. He has 6 LOB tonight. Way to early to pass judgement on a trade but so far so good for Reds fans |

That stadium really isn't much of a bandbox. [/ QUOTE ] Are you kidding?? It's TINY! It's hard to hit anything in the air other than a pop-up that DOESN'T go out. They don't call it the Great American Small Park for nothing! The dimensions aren't that far off from a regular stadium, but it's how the fence is shaped. The arc from the foul pole to center on each side is more of a straight line than a big circle like you'd see at Turner Field. Sure it's 404 or whatever in dead center, but it basically comes to a point there...just to the left and right of dead center (and the rest of the way around) it plays much shorter. |
Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 4 - 0
Over the first three years of play, GAB has actually been a pitcher's park. The Reds have scored more runs on the road than in the GAB, and the pitcher have given up more runs on the road than in the GAB.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 5 - 0
I think I stated pre-season or the very beginning of the season that Arroyo would win at least 18 games this year. I might have to adjust that prediction up to 20...
The Reds are getting the better end of this trade. Arroyo is what, only 24 years old? And he's got nasty stuff and Reds fans are going to have something special. Any Red Sox fan will tell you that Arroyo's potential to break out was right at the surface. I wish the Red Sox waited just one more year. This was the most disturbing trade the Sox made this year to me IMO. Willie Mo may be a big dude but he hasn't showed any hustle and it's a adventure everytime the ball is hit in his direction. |
Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 5 - 0
All right, let's go even money on 19 wins for Arroyo. I take under, 19's a push.

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 5 - 0
What's the over/under on how many home runs Arroyo hits this year Jack?

Re: DON\'T LOOK NOW: Arroyo 5 - 0
Thru May 1 2005: 3.69 ERA, 3-0
Thru May 1 2006: 2.06 ERA, 5-0 Adjusting for the NL that ERA is not a huge difference. In fact, he was really good thru mid-May last year, with an ERA as low as 3.1. He's going to come back to earth guys. He tends to wear down. When you look back on his season you'll say that was pretty good, above average starter quality. But to think this guy has emerged or become something more than what he is silly. |

"Bronson Arroyo is the best pitcher since Brandon Arroyo."
