Richard Brodie, http://www.brodietech.com/liontales/blog.htm , he is not really a pro, he is retired but likes to play a lot of poker and is friends with a lot of the Full tilt pros.

After playing with him on Full Tilt I have to say he deals with a constant stream of abuse in a pretty dignified manner. I don't care if he's rich - should be easier to take his money - so I don't understand why so many people visibly have a problem with it. Don't they WANT rich players in the game?

I've played with him a bunch, and he seems like a very nice guy.

If you couldn't tell he was joking - you need to lighten up a tad. Dry sense of humor doesn't make someone a bad guy.

FWIW, I've known Richard for over 2 years and he is one of small group who remain down to earth after being so successful in their business life.

He co-wrote Word 1.0, not excel, and was one of i think an original 6 involved with Microsoft. sorry to be a nit.

He's taught me things about Video Poker paytables etc my bosses at the time didn't even know. Once he became interested in poker, he pretty much dove in and tried to learn as much as he could, as fast as possible. How can someone have a problem with that?

Richard is truly a class act - as well as an occasional lurker on 2+2, so he may even stop in and have something to add.

Re: Quiet Lion

If I was him, I would not go around promoting the fact that he developed Microsoft Word. The early versions of Word absolutely sucked. Both WordPerfect and WordStar were far superior. Word survived because of Windows. Not anything the Quiet Lion did.

This makes sense though. He developed a half-assed program and he is a half-assed poker player. On the positive side, he does share his vast knowledge of wine in his blog. That's nice!

I can only reply with what I know of him - to be honest I don't remember a damn thing about Word 1.0.

He's a genuinely nice guy & obviously highly intelligent - I doubt you'll find anyone who knows him say otherwise.

Yah!!! I'm looking for that bastard that invented the phonograph, what a piece of junk. And the guy who invented the wheel? How many bruised tailbones does a guy have to suffer on his wagon before steel belted radials can be mass produced? And have you ever gone through a midwestern August wearing animal pelts--UNBEARABLE!!!! Someday they'll come out with finely woven cotton garments or even microfiber clothing. Someday......

I'm sure you were trolling....and you win. Can't really be serious.

Have to go now--need to take 2 1/2 minutes to type up a memo before a meeting I'm going into.

As others have elaborated, a very nice, bright, rich guy. Played with him last year in one of the prelim WSOP events, and actually busted him near the bubble. He plays VERY tight.

Funny reply but what does it have to do with one program being superior to another and some braggart inventor hyping his being part of a team that developed an inferior program? That is all we hear about Quiet Lion yet we only occasionally hear about Barry Greenstein's work with Symantec. Wonder why.

Almost everybody in this thread who has had contact with him has said he was a nice guy, yet you keep trying to bash him. Does that make you feel good? Are you trying to change everybody's mind that he is a nice guy? I don't really see where you are coming from.

In my limited exposure, it seems that with his blog and the feedback of many posters here, Richard seems like a decent fellow. I've not heard of him bragging about his Word association--seems like others talking about it. Being one of the original six with M-Soft and "doing some work with symantec" aren't very equal comparisons.

It can be the rage to bash M-Soft and their products. I just know as the owner of a small business with 8 employees that their products we use help in our business and allow us to do work that brings in $$. I don't feel the need/have the time to pick apart problems with M-Soft. I'd rather spend my free time playing poker.
