What does your average opponent look like?

This is an interesting statistic, it can show your table selection skill, as well as the direction that online poker is taking.

Absolute Poker 1/2 6max: April 06

3.7k hands
41/10

Party 1/2 6max: April 06

3k hands
40.9/10.6

Post yours, bottom line of summary tab in PT.

In my mined database before party disallowed mining the average opponent is 37.7/12.5, looks like I have a few table selection skills.

It was only over 5k hands, but the games did seem very soft, as I ran at 4.9BB/100. Just about all the hands are from Sept-Nov of last year.

My table selection is non-existant. I play them all. I will "re-evaluate" my play at Crypto when I am done my WSOP promotion insane-a-thon. I also plan on posting the definitive "state of 6max on Crypto" from 1/2 to 10/20 with about 300K+ hands of data since Jan. when I am done at the end of may, but so far...

1/2: 35/11 (13K hands)
2/4: 33.5/12.5 (54K hands)
3/6: 34/13 (51K hands)
5/10: 34/13.5 (28K hands)
10/20: 34/15 (5K hands) (I only hop in here when it looks soft)

April:

20k at 3/6: 37.75/12.2

9.5k hands at stars
9.5k at party
1k at UB

I think I practice good game selection.

stars: 38.15/11.9
party: 37.1/12.6
UB: 40.1/11.8

Cool thread, didn't know I could get this info from PT.

Make sure you have "Don't include my stats" checked, I think I remember I had that unchecked when I did this, so the games were probably fishier back then for me.

Stars 5/10 since 10/06 over 82k hands (35.4/16.4)

I'm guessing waffle didn't have the "Don't include my stats" button unchecked, were the games really tighter 16 months ago?

FWIW with the button unchecked I get 33.4/16.8. This will have more effect on sites like stars where datamining is not allowed, and for tight nits like me.

While you need multiple fish to beat the rake at 1/2 you only need 1 fish and have fairly good position on him to beat the rake at 5/10. Dont worry about it and move up

This is with good table selection... But I like playing LAGs... so the PFR may seem high

Re: What does your average opponent look like?

Stars $1-$2 over 35k hands: 34/14. Almost no table selection.

It's quite unbelievable to see that the same stats appear at much higher stakes. I think I will stop playing $1-$2, and play higher stakes with a lower rake and better table selection.

Really interesting thread!

Re: What does your average opponent look like?

while it is obviously somewhat meaningfull as a comparasion to a prior data point....i think it is not meaningful in terms of your table selectivity.

i would much rather sit at a table with two 50/14's to my immediate right and two 20/16's on my left and say anoth 27/20 like myself accross the table. this avg would be about 32/17. i would much rather be at that table than at a table where everyone was 34/16 and myself at 27/20 where the table average would be slightly better at 34/17.

While generallly speaking a higher avg is better than a lower avg (and ideally all opponents would be looser), in todays enviorment of tables that are mixed with tight and loose players------As far as table selectity goes we do not really care as much about avgs as much as disproportionate distributions of preflop VPIP between players. Usuallly we are looking to take advantage of a particular player or two/three.

Re: What does your average opponent look like?

3/6

FT - 37/15 over 667,000
Abs - 40/16 over 22k
Ultimate - 40/16 over 17k

2/4

FT - 38/14 over 223k
Abs - 39/15 5k
UB- 41.5/15 26k

However, this doesn't necessarily mean that this is the average table I'm at because I datamine at FT and UB. So (hopefully) my opponent average is higher at these than my stats on them. Also, I filtered to only show tables that I played where there were between 4 and 6 opponents. All of these have been since sometime in april.
