I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
Edit: Stars 150.
Opponent is pretty bad. He likes completing the SB, minbetting flops, and walks on the beach. When he checks the flop I am relatively sure he has caught absolutely nothing. Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
I'm pretty impressed, what are youre chances here against a random hand assuming no J,T or 3. How sure were you in your head that you had him beat? Did you think ~50% chance, 70% chance? This is pretty results based, but nice call.

Nice call.. It would have been funnier if he had like K high and you mucked

I don't want to reply any more before more people post, but just to forestall this, giving him a totally random hand is wrong, IMO.

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
your hand beats only a bluff. is villain bad enough that he'll "bluff" a hand that beats you? if not, then all you need to do is figure out: is he bluffing? has he taken this sort of line? what line has he taken with the hand? what line has he taken without it? if he never checked the flop having hit a piece of it, you've got to be good if the answer to the first question is "no". |
Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
I think its possible he has a pair smaller than T's and got counterfitted on the river.

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
I dont know, I see this a lot with an Ace, hoping to avoid a chop. It comes down to how often you think this is a total bluff (non-A), I dont hate it though

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
Fantastic call. Villian would have bet an Ace or King on that flop (especially given his chip stack -- in fact, he probably would have pushed preflop). Villian would not have overbet the river with a J or T, since all the hero had done was check, check, check. Absolutely great call, I think. I would have never done it myself.
Hopefully he said something like "you can't bluff a donkey" when you made the call. |

Standard! (Yes, even at $150 + buyin tourneys. Yes I make these plays every day.)

That being said, his action on later streets changes this significantly, but I'm still curious how you can be sure he whiffed the flop by the fact that he checked it. |

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
adanthar, would you have called the river bet if he had only bet t150?
|
Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
the river overbet is also quite standard from a poor player who missed his slowplay and is now trying to get all the value he can. |

the river overbet is also quite standard from a poor player who missed his slowplay and is now trying to get all the value he can. [/ QUOTE ] yes, that can happen, but given that there are only 4 cards in the deck that could help him, a much more likely scenario is that he completed the SB hoping to see a cheap flop, missed the flop, then saw an opportunity to steal the hand on the scary river. The main reason I don't think the villian had a T or J is that adanthar didn't do anything in this hand -- he checked preflop, he checked the flop, he checked the turn. Even the stupidest donkey is going to notice that and bet small to extract a bit of money out of him. |
Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
Obviously the two assumptions you're making is that he raises preflop with an A or K and that he bets somewhere with a J or T.

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
I would fold the river. If he wanted to bluff why did he wait to the river? Of course sometimes they will have nothing but its a really illogical line to take for someone who suddenly has the balls to move allin with nothing. |
Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
I really dislike the call.
If you were right, congrats Phil Hellmuth. |

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
I like how everyone assumes that because he posted this that he won the hand. I have a feeling that villan had trips or at the very least has better than queen high. He was probably trying to slowplay his trips and when that didn't work he tried to make up for it on the river.

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
Responses are such because he wrote "sick call" in the title. The assumption is that a sick call is a correct one (results wise).

whats the harm in completing the big blind
what's the harm in completing the small blind?? (you post that as a negative tendency). i always complete no matter what if pot has been limped or folded to me what's the harm in that? (this surely cant be the whole reason i suck)

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
Looks like he had trip Jacks. He may have checked on the turn because he was cautious that you had trip tens. When you also checked he probably would have bet his pair. Then the jack made trips on the river so he might as well go for it.

Re: I usually post folds, so here\'s a sick call
I think even a "pretty bad" in 150 will raise an Ax or Kx preflop. If he hit the flop he will bet somewhere before river to extract.
This is the call I can not make, but I'd say You won the showdown. |

This hand had a lot to do with the particular kind of opponent that does this.
He completes PF (this could be any two) and then checks the flop. At this point we can probably rule out a jack - he isn't slowplaying it with 800 chips left and a 300 pot. Instead, he is at least minbetting it because he's scared but has top pair. I have nothing so I check, but then he also checks the turn, where we rule out a 3 and basically confirms he *never* has a jack. It just isn't something a guy that likes auto minbetting would check twice. (This is the same reason he doesn't have 44.) So on the turn, we know he has trip tens, or air. Now the river pairs the jack and he pushes. If he were slightly better, it would often be tens gambling on me calling, but he's bad and probably scared; a scared player much more often minbets tens or does something else other than overbet. The much more likely motivation is that he's pushing because he wants the pot and knows I can't call. So like OSU said, what is he bluffing with? I don't think A high *ever* pushes this river with what is basically always the best hand; it doesn't make any sense. He might have K high, or I might be wrong and this is the 1 time in 100 he has a jack/exactly 33. But the push makes so little sense given his tendencies with anything that beats me, that my spider sense went off and I really felt most of the time I was ahead. I called and beat 86o. (I really didn't think 'sick' implied good, too. oops) |
