How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
Just wondering what you guys tip at the end of a multi-table tournament (assuming you're in the money). I usually tip 5%, which comes out well. Most tournaments I play in pay out 5500 to first place, which means a tip of almost 300 bucks. But I'm in the final table of a tournament that pays out $35,000 to the winner. IF I can pull a win, do I still tip 5%? That's $1750! Any advice from those who regularly play B&M tournaments would be appreciated. |
Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
3% is acceptable. Make sure to find out whether the tip is already taken out of the prize pool.

I dont tip. Just take a screen capture, sign off and go to the bars. Is there a tip option in one of the menus?

oh man I took toke a completely different way [/ QUOTE ] HA! Well, I'm short stacked going into the final six players. so if I can pull off a win, I'll definitly be toking after toking the dealers. |

From what i've read, 5-10% for small wins (maybe up to a couple thousand). And for larger tournaments, with wins of thousands or tens of thousands, then 3% is good and 5% is being very very nice. Does this sounds right? |

Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
A lot of successful players don't toke at all, I believe 5% is way to high, I usually do in the 1-2% range if there is a very good dealer, I will pass him/her some $$ privately as they usually chop the tokes among all the dealers.

I usually tip 5% [/ QUOTE ] But I'm sure 2% or so would be fine in bigger events. |

Depending on the score... about 1/8....
Oh wait, you mean tip the dealers... they can go score their own! |

Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
I'm lucky right now, because here in the UK toking dealers is not allowed.
James McManus in "Positively Fifth Street" has a very interesting chapter on this topic after he cashed in the WSOP ME. If I recall correctly, something like 2-3% is expected. |
Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
Is it really that bad not to tip? I mean, I find it very irritating. Its not like a restaurant; the dealer is not giving me a smile with my cards nor is the dealer some hot babe flirting with me while she gets me another beer. These guys are just dishing out cards, and they are amply paid via the entrance fee.
And what if I am really annoyed with the dealing services? What if guys are flipping over cards left and right? Is there any discretion here for the customer (the tournie winner) not to tip so as to create an incentive for good dealing (as its supposed to work in restaurants, but of course everyone always tips anyway no matter how bad the service) |
Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
at the casino i (sometimes) frequent, i refuse to tip all but one dealer. they play it like it's a home game. one of them has a huge problem with flashing burn cards, another thinks that slow-rolling is acceptable because he "cant tell players how to play their cards". it's extremely poor, but none of them have yet to ask me why i don't toke. they probably aren't paying attention.

Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
I think 3% is acceptable for big MTTs with payouts of tens of thousands of dollars. If we're talking a smaller tournament where you win, say $5000 for first, then 5% would be good.
Unfortunatly, the casino I play at does not include dealer tips in the buy-in. That would make things ALOT easier. |

Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
I assume everyone is referring to live B&M tournys with their responses...I mean tipping online seems a little ludacrous dont you think? For live tourney's i'm at about 4-5% for small wins and 1.5-3% for larger (over10,000) wins.

Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
Of course, if you don't give an additional tip, you run the danger of getting slammed. |
Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
its [censored] [censored] that they take a tip out in advance and criticize people who don't tip. I hate these people so much, if you want a tip don't take it out of the prize pool in advance, its so completely ridiculous. Any writer who writes garbage like this is a moron. If the dealers want a bigger tip, take freaking 4-5% instead of 3% off the top instead and then stop whining.
Note that I would tip something anyway for good karma purposes, but wouldn't blame anyone for a SECOND that tips absolutely zero. |

I basically got guilted into giving 5% by the entire Orleans tournament staff last summer when I took 2nd in their weekly friday afternoon limit Omaha 8 tourney. I only took home like $700 or $800 but I got the impression if I didn't leave a tip that I wouldn't exactly be welcomed back with open arms. |

Of course, if you don't give an additional tip, you run the danger of getting slammed. [/ QUOTE ] This isn't that he didn't leave a tip it's that he left a $500 tip off of $1.5mil score. It even said if he didn't want to tip that was fine since a certain % had already been taken off but to leave $500 makes it seem like he was upset with something. It would be like leaving a $1 tip at a resturant after an expensive meal. You want them to know you didn't forget and that you tipped bad on purpose. |
Re: How much to toke at the end of a MTT?
Dont you understand that he already tipped by virtue of simply paying his entry fee? Do you feel obliged to tip when your room service brings you a meal and the 20% tip has already been taken out? I usually tip a buck or two but it's absurd to expect someone to tip more when you've already tipped for them. Honestly I think that any tournament director, casino or writer who acts like you should be under some moral pressure to tip in these cases should be boycotted/treated with extreme prejudice. They are basically intimidating you into giving them money after they've already taken said money from you. |
