Do AC dealers care if you play props?
Going this weekend with some friends, and plan on playing some low limit or NL with side prop bets. Do the poker rooms care if players are constantly passing chips to one another (while not in a hand) in a cash game?

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
God I hope shows like High Stakes Poker are not turning this into a trend.

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
Yeah really, why are you playing props on such a low-limit? For the smaller games that you mentioned, i think it would not sit well with a lot of people if you were doing that.

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
I'm going with college friends who don't really play poker. They won't be willing to go higher than 3/6 or 1/2 NL and I need to tempt them with some extra action so they don't spend all their time at BJ/craps.

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
The only time I've been told to stop playing props at the Borgata was because I was being drunk and beligerant about the wagers, and betting on things like cup sizes of female players at the table.
Also if you're going with friends who don't play poker, go get hammered and play craps and blackjack with them, you'll have a lot more fun. |
Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
dont know for sure, but i would think it would be considered passing chips to another player, which i believe is ok if it is ok with the table.
either way, i wouldnt do it at a card room because you go there to win others' money, you have a home game to win your friend's money. |

Nobody said a word about it, other than a player asking us wtf we were doing. ness |

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
depends on the dealer. last time i was there no one complained at the 2/5NL when we were playing for nickels but when i asked someone to bump it to quarters a player at the table objected.
like most things in life, just be discreet and no one will care. |

nh
However, I didn't see where the OP said that these friends are necessarily good players, anyway. Money won from friends spends the same, eh? |

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
I don't think the High Stakes Poker has much to do with more people playing props because they hardly mention it on the show. I think it will have an effect of people wanting to "run it twice".
I was told to quit playing props in Indiana, but all we did was still play them and pay each other after the session was over. |

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
I've done it at the Borgata on a couple of occasions, donking it up drunk playing lower limits, and never had a problem. Chips would be flying through the air to each other on every hand. Some dealers would even point out if one of us missed something. We made sure to not let it slow the game up so no one cared.

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
I was once playing red/black flops with a dude @ Borgata and were told to stop by one dealer whereas two others had let it go.
So I guess it depends |
Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
Matt, there will definitely be table games galore once the hour gets late. But I want some company at the poker table since I plan on playing at least a couple of hours. Besides, they are not all BJ champs like you.
Thx guys, drunken props are definitely a go from the looks of it. |
Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
If the dealer doesn't say anything, it's because they don't know to. Props aren't allowed and if the floor catches wind, they'll let you know.
As a dealer I hate props because most of the time it slows the game down (even if you don't think it does... it does), and one less hand a down can add up to $12 (or more) less in tokes a night. Depending on the game, I might look the other way while I'm dealing, but alert the floor after my down. It's always better to let the floor take the heat for a ruling. |
Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
ODB is right. Depite your best intentions it will slow the game down a little. So what I have done for the dealer is the old "can you knock my chip down with the card" trick for a buck or two. I'll balance a chip on it's edge and tell the dealer if they can knock it down when throwing me my cards it's a buck for them. Then the next time I'll turn it sideways to make it a little harder. They have all seemed to enjoy it.

Re: Do AC dealers care if you play props?
I've been playing props occasionally for the last year or so and i haven't had any problems. The trick it doing it with people that are sitting near you and settle bets between hands while the dealer is shuffling. You don't often find players willing to do it though. Its fun when you do though. Trop and Harrahs I have done it at most, they definately don't care. I've done it during drunken low limit fun fests at the Borgata, but we were all tipping the dealer really well, so that might be the reason they were looking the other way.
