Aaaargh, ugly spot with trips (semi-deep)

Party 100NL (Full Ring)

Background:

Villain opens alot of pots pre-flop w/ a standard raise of 4 from any position. Once I noticed this, I loosened my standars for playing w/ him and called him a few times pre-flop. I've played 4 HU pots villain (3 OOP, 1 in pos) and have taken away each one from him w/ a similar pattern. Villain raises pf, I call his flop c-bet and I take it away later once he shows weakness.

He has played only one hand that really stood out. 4 people limp and see a flop of 652 (2hearts), 2 checks, he bets half pot, one caller, turn A, he bets 45 into a pot of like 8, other guy calls (all-in) w/ just a flush draw, villain had A4o.

Onto the hand in question (I'm doing this from memory).

Stacks: ~160
Hand: 97o (my suits don't matter)

Pre-flop:
Villain opens for 4 from EP or EMP, Hero (BB) calls.

Flop: 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Pot(~8)
Hero checks, Villain bets 4, Hero makes it 14, Villain calls

Turn: 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Pot(~36)
Hero bets 25, Villain raises to 116 (all in)

Hero furiously types random letters into the chat, now what?

Judging on your previous reads I think it's safe to call here. Villain's probably on A5o, or has a draw. Pray for a board pair on the river to be safe.

come on, only one person thought this was interesting enough to comment on?

It is interesting, it's just bloody hard to know what to do here.

Given your read i would call this.

He had pushed on a board similar with marginal holdings before, so he could be holding many things. Though hard to put him on a range, i would guesstimate you are ahead most of the time here.

Only problem with this is that he was the aggressor on the other hand, this time he is pushing against a someone showing strenght.

RESULTS!

I called and rivered a nine to crack his straight, ship it!

I think a lead flop then 3-bet if he raises would work best on this flop.

yeah b3b flop

fold pf, even with your read

Turbo muck preflop. Terrible hand. Terrible position. Now call the all-in and live with results.

Reread the action, I c/r'ed the flop.

Re: Aaaargh, ugly spot with trips (semi-deep)

why go after a loose lag by calling a raise out of position with a very marginal hand, knowing the villian will bet at any flop that comes out? You put in the most money while you were behind on this hand, and you got lucky to win it. wait for a better spot and a better hand, than re-raise this opponent.

Re: Aaaargh, ugly spot with trips (semi-deep)

i dont think you were strong enough on the flop to go for a check raise. I think you come out betting there.

I agree that I did NOT play the hand well. However, GIVEN my actions up to his all-in bet, do you make the call? Its unfortunate that I already posted the results, but I thought this post had died. Anyway, try to be objective!

The majority of the responses in this thread have been "big picture" as you put it. Perhaps you are not seeing the "big picture" which is that the money at stake on the turn dwarfs the amount which went in on the previous streets....how about you get off your "fold pre-flop, b3b the flop" horse which everyone else seems to be on (and I have already accepted) and answer the question I posed ORIGINALLY and REPEATEDLY, do you call the all-in?

Re: Aaaargh, ugly spot with trips (semi-deep)

yeah you put the most money in the middle during the times you were drawing, not a good way to play it

i might say that all the players who are on the fold preflop, don't get involved in big pots with marginal hands against loose players out of position horse, are all winning players. i would get on the horse buddy

You are a mental defective. Do you not understand that it is still possible to discuss the action on the turn even though my play on previous was streets as bad?????????????? And it is especially important to do b/c that it is when the majority of the money went in. Not once have you answered the question I am most interested in.

AS PLAYED, DO YOU CALL THE TURN ALL-IN?

Both of you calm the hell down right now. This forum is civil and for gentlemen and adults. If you can't act as such, I hear theredpill has a forum.

srm80- You are right, he should have folded preflop and bet/3bet the flop. Also too, many players dont call to avoid this situation.
fly- I used to like your attitude. It seemed to fit in. But here you are acting a little overzealous.

As for the hand, im 50/50 on calling here, as a big draw just hit and yoi dont the best of hands here. IMO this hand is only a little bit above TPTK. Given his tendency to overbet, I call, but am not too happy about it.
