My Wrist Hurts

I have a cheap optical logitech mouse without a mousepad. The past couple of days after playing for an hour or 2, my wrist starts to get really sore.

Setup: I usually rest my elbow on my arm rest and the heel of my hand on the edge of my desk. I have the mouse sensitivity set fairly high, so I don't move anything but my hand.

What do you do to keep your wrists happy?

I use a logitech trackman wheel, the only thing your moving is your thumb and pointer finger, wrist stays stationary.

aren't you supposed to try to use larger muscle systems? don't rest the heel of your hand on the desk

When I started getting wrist pain, I changed my normal position to where my elbow was on the desk, so that my elbow and wrist were both resting on the same surface. I have had no serious pain and only occassional soreness since then (18 months ago).

To accomplish this, my mouse is usually even with the keyboard or behind it so that my arm is extended almost straight out.

I think the key is to make sure your wrist is below your elbow or even with it. Wrist above elbow = bad.

You are not supposed to just move the hand. That's the cause of your pain. Move the mouse back as someone suggested so your elbow and hand are on the same surface. Maybe get a cheap wrist supporter from Walgreens.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll move my monitor back a bit so there's room for my long monkey arms.

I have done a huge ammount of research into this, and I am doing great coping with my own carpal tunnel problems.

This thread is filled with terrible advice already.

You should talk to a doctor. There are thousands of ways you could have injured yourself, and what worked for others can hurt you.

What worked for me:

balt crank height adjustable desk: $200
evoluent vertical mouse 2: $50
2 neoflex lcd arms: $180
2 Huge mouspads: $20
Taking the arms off my chair: free

For most forms of RSI, there is no correct posture. You must be changing your posture.

I've switched mouse hands a couple times now when the pain wouldn't go away with ergonomic fixes. It was weird the first time, like throwing a ball left-handed when you're right-handed, but I got used to it pretty quick.

Does this work very well? It seems like it would be hard to navigate with.

From my experience playing playstation games that use a cursor, it seems like it would be hard to work with.

What do you mean by huge mousepads? Large surface area?

I guess you took the arms off your chair to keep the temptation away?

Pictures?

It sounds like you really take your ergonomics seriously. Thanks for the advice.

I have an easier solution. I put 2 pillows in my lap and rest my elbows on them. My wrist is then level with the mouse.

Re: My Wrist Hurts

I have a neural interface to communicate my mouse movements to the computer directly from my frontal lobe. I sit in a catatonic state in a darkened room, deeply analyzing each scenario and performing on-the-fly EV calculations while I 20-table the 30/60+ games on several well-known sites that gives me 150% rakeback (no I can't say which site).

Before I reached this state of perfection, I used a regular mouse with high sensitivity and a gel-cushion mousepad that slopes downward, keeping my wrist straighter.

My wrist used to really hurt too. I raised the height of the chair so its level with the desk. Now my arm rest on the chair. I use a trackball mouse to. That seemed to help.

I'm just waiting for a program to come out that lets me talk into a microphone...

"Table 3, Raise to 400"
"Table 2, Fold"
"Table 4, Fold"

All while I twiddle my thumbs

Note: Only supports up to 2 tables simultaneously. It sounded too good to be true.

Re: My Wrist Hurts

it works really well on party with multi table helper and with stars when the tables are stacked. If you have to navigate you can do it with the joysticks using autohotkey to make one motion equal moving up one table or over one table, but it ends up being far more movements than using multitable helper. Pinnacle game profiler turns the button or joystick into keyboard commands.

As it is set up now, for limit I lay out the tables leaving the space that it moves the active table into blank. that way I can tell which table has been moved by the big blank space, helps to keep track of which table it is, which helps with reads obviosly. then fold is a flick of the joystick to the left, call is to the right, and the bottom of the 4 buttons is raise/bet. for no limit I add a number pad to type in bet amounts.
