How do you know when you\'ve become a real \"Cardplayer\"

In all my time at poker, I've always aspired to be a real cardplayer. Not a poker player, not a Snger or MTTer or cash game expert....but a real cardplayer. Over the past few weeks I've played well and have outsmarted my opponents quite a bit, racking up a few grand. I've been studying this game diligently for 2.5 years and really love the game. Still, I don't consider myself a true cardplayer. There are moments where I go on a tear and I mentally say to myself, "Indy, you are becoming a real cardplayer." I'm not there yet, but if you have arrived or know somebody who has....How did you know when you/they became a real cardplayer?

Maybe you could post your definition and/or list the requirements for the title?

When you walk up to a table or are moved to a table and the other players look at you and say "Oh S#it".

Win a weekly $200 HORSE tournament on Full Tilt, then win NLHE, PLO and limit Triple Draw(optional, since impossible to find online) tournaments of reasonable buyin and # of entries. Definition of "reasonable" is up to you, after all it's you who'll be doing the "feeling" part.

There's no clear definition for a cardplayer, I just know it when I see it. That guy from Costa Rica, Rosencrantz (sp?) with the card visor and poker face...he's a cardplayer.

There are only two ways to gain membership. Be the son of a cardplayer, or save the life of a cardplayer.

I saved your life! That egg sandwich could have killed you by cholesterol.

Forget it, DVault1. While it has been established that eggs contain cholesterol, it has not yet been proven conclusively that they actually raise the level of serum cholesterol in the human blood stream.

The first rule of Cardplayer is that you do not talk about Cardplayer.

You are not a true cardplayer until you can sense the next card on the deck.

Yes. When you can play like Maverick. When the time comes and you are willing to call a huge pot overbet and then a huge overbet reraise cold drawing one card to a Royal because you just know that it's your destiny to hit it. That is when you become a true cardplayer.

You know you have become a real "cardplayer" when you understand, notice and adapt to the "struggle for the antes" nature of poker.

You also have become a real "cardplayer" when you understand and embrace the variance and inherent gamble in the different forms of poker.

Lastly, you have become a real "cardplayer" when you look at the way others play and the way you used to play and notice that they are and you were in fact "too solid".

When a novice brings up poker, and you wish you were in another room because of the relevant ignorance they have on the subject, and the fact that you're much too tired of explaining something to other 2p2'ers to reitterate it to someone who will crash and burn in poker before they ever even get to a 2/4 game.

Re: How do you know when you\'ve become a real \"Cardplayer\"

You all should read Mike Caro's article on Cardplayer.com where he talks about how a gorgeous girl got involved with a bunch of guys in a game of strip poker (they were all semi-players) and finally one of them made some kind of stupid bet on her, that she would win a hand against a particular guy or something. It got everyone's dander up and before you know it the half-dressed girl had been banished to the sidelines because they were playing real poker for real money.

Mike ends the article, "I guess if you are at a game that turns from strip poker into real poker and you find yourself happy about that, then you deserve to be called a card player."
