Shulman has written a very fine piece on the absurdity of it all. It looks like we'll dodge this one.

Guys: It is never okay to post an article like this. The copyright on that article belongs to the WSJ. If you want to point to an article here, post a link.

Even if you cite the source, you still can't post an article here in its entirety.

Here is a link to the article. It is good.

James A. Leach, a Republican from Iowa, is serving his 15th term in Congress.

Uhhhh, how old does this make him? 90? 100?

gambling online is not the same as bowling.

This guy is a genius. I love him! He is too old and dumb to pose a threat to online poker.
But his stubbornness and inability to form a logical argument makes for good
entertainment...

He's like a big old senile grandpa that you can't help but love!

That's how I view most of Congress, except for the "can't help but love" part.

"We train our customer relations employees to recognize excess or irregular behavior and address it immediately. Regulation would standardize these best practices throughout the industry. American consumers would then know which companies are licensed and which are not."

Has anyone ever been banned or know of anyone banned because of signs of addictive betting behaviour?

More people listen to this yo-yo than you think. Write your congresspeople.

No joke, do it now. Don't complain when this bill passes and you think it is so unfair that we live in this facist country. If you didn't at least do that, then you have no room to complain.

ya, pacific banned a guy in december or november i think. He kept trying to get a quick cashout and pacific has a three day waiting period. SO he told them he needed the money right away to pay for rent and bills and what not. Pacific then banned his account because he was keeping money in gambling sites instead of paying bills with it.

15 terms in the House is only 30 years.

OK, so he's what 65? 75? He's still a super old-head that should have retired by now.

He should be on a beach in Florida or in a nursing home somewhere, not trying
to pass 1960s laws on the rest of the sane population who is going to have to live
with them long after this guy is buried.

The #1 reason old views change is not because opinions change; it's because the
proponents of those archaic views get old and die.

Well said.

Look at the poll 85% of Americans say allow online gambling, I would love to see a "true poll" done on this issue accross the nation. I bet it'd still be 60-65% in favor of online gambling with a 10-15% undecided.

MAIL YOUR CONGRESSMAN EVERYONE!!!!!

A good idea, but it might be more effective if we could all somehow force the
old geezers in Congress/The Senate to start eating more McDonald's/high cholesterol
(and salt and fat content) foods, followed by getting them lap dances
by attractive big-boobed girls.

Early inducement of a heart attack? - likely. But they'd all go out with a smile
on their wrinkled old faces!
