Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

This is a rebuy, so we all know there will be a lot of donks still around, but I am thinking this is almost always AA or KK. EDIT: This is POST rebuy

Maybe my math is off but could you not call another 850 simply for set value?

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

I gotta call getting 5-1 here. If he has AA or KK he made a mistake reraising so small.

I think I have odds but didnt feel like pissing away another t1000 and then donk away my chips when the flop comes all low cards.

Yea, your probably right. I've seen this with AK a couple times but more likely then not its KK+. You don't have the stack size to play for set value either since you have to call 900 w/ like 6000 behind so I think the fold is alright.

Justin,

Do you fold kings here?

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

I call and pray for a set. If overs come I'll probably give it up, if not I'm probably going to the felt. I see this 4-bet by people with AK sometimes.

NoahSD 04-03-2006 07:54 PM

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

There's like 4.5k in the pot, and you only have to pay t850 to call, plus you've got ~t5.8k left after calling

I really don't like this fold.

04-03-2006 07:55 PM

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

initial raise to 3.5 bb. then minraises ur raise...really weird. but depending on the villain, this minraise could be weakness w/ somethin like JJ. i personally would call and see what develops on the flop, but i dont think this fold is wrong

Your reasoning for folding QQ is that you think his range is KK/AA. If that's the case, then folding KK is in order.

Close your eyes and pretend they are 22 (except when a 2 but not a Q hits the flop) and it gets substantially easier.

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

Looks like really obvious call at worst. Also I find it ridiculous that you fold PF since you are so confident that they have AA or KK, yet you are unwilling to fathom the notion of folding the flop on a low board.

You are confident he has AA-KK now, why would a flop of 552 change that? It's not like the cards that come on the flop affect the hand your opponent has.

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

I'm def calling and seeing what happens on the flop. First we have decent odds for set value. 2ndly, maybe he doesn't have AA/KK and something like JJ and an A or K comes on flop and scares him and you get a cheap showdown. I really don't like folding it though.

with that level of confidence that you are against AA/KK, if you play for set value, are you then folding when the flop comes AKQ?

At a $10 tourney Im not willing to assume they have AA-KK for sure just because they min reraise me.

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

I just don't see how you can fold. First of all, if you do hit your set and he has AA/KK as you are so sure of then you will certainly get the correct payoff for making your set. Second, if it is so obvious to 'good players' that this mini-raise means AA/KK then other 'good players' will make this mini-raise with hands other than AA/KK since it would be so easy to make their opponents fold.

I will say that I ocassionally make plays like this simply to make it look like I have an AA/KK type hand and it often works -- however, I don't assume people are throwing away QQ when I do it <G>.

The general assumption is that the opponent sucks, and doesn't know what level 3 or 4 thinking is.

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

doesn't the first raise of over 3x make AA/KK less likely?

I wouldn't be surprised if this had been Jacks.

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

He had A9o. But he would have flopped trip nines, so good laydown.

Seriously, an average 10$r will make that play with a shitload of hands. I can't possibly see how that's not at least a call.

headturner1 04-03-2006 11:51 PM

Re: Another rebuy hand.... QQ preflop lay down...

easy call. especially in a 10$. the shear amount of donkeys in that tourney and the added fact that it is a rebuy makes me believe that donk could have anything from 99-JJ to AK, or AQ.

i am a donk and my move here would be to call.

You already know what your opponent has, so you're playing face up.. that makes this hand very easy to play.. You have great pot odds, but more importantly you can be assured that your implied odds are the rest of his stack if a Q hits.. call and play for set value.

So why does the guy raise so much to begin with and then make a tiny min raise when reraised? I dunno theres no way I give the guy AA-KK 90% of the time.
