Annie Duke article.

Did you guys ever see this Annie Duke article?
I know it's old but its hilarious. Check out her new boyfriend in the photo. My favorite line is about the poker player men in Montana "some of whom did not have feminist leanings." Ah, the NYT. Article link.

Ultimate bet is based in Portland? I guess since the NYT claims to be the paper of record I'll have to believe this.

Am I the only one that thinks Annies' new boyfriend looks a lot like Ron Jeremy....(which might explain the Shannon Elizabeth thing.....)

she bested nine male rivals, one of them her brother, Howard Lederer, to win the Tournament of Champions, the event's most prestigious competition

[/ QUOTE ]

I was interested to learn that a 9-player 'made-for-tv' freeroll being done for the first time is the WSOP's most 'prestigious' competition.

dictionary: syn: esteemed, honored

There is almost no way I can see how this event (not even a bracelet event I think) can be considered the WSOP's most 'prestigious'.

I liked the article's head line... "Fold 'em. Then raise."

Well, it is the NYT and it is from the city that can't seem to keep a poker room open.

If I hadn't seen Duke before when I saw that pic, I would have thought the two were getting ready to try the coke that doesn't come in diet.

That cracked me up. I'm sure all their editors would never assume that Duke would be involved with an illegal activity that couldn't be located in Portland. Hey, they never checked Jayson Blair, why look here.

Playing poker's as outlandish as throwing a football to those types.

Hey, Annie's got at least 5 or 6 months left before she descends from average to FUGLY.

And what about personality. There are more emotionally sustainable leprechuans than Duke.

I just saw her on PSI III commentating. If by 5 or 6 months you mean zero months, I'm in agreement.

"Once again she finds her life in transition. Not long after she made her mark at the 2004 World Series she and her husband, Ben Duke, with whom she had had four children, divorced."

I hope he got half.

"When they met through friends, Mr. Reitman said, 'it was evident that Annie was very bright.'

"But didn't he like her, she wanted to know, because she was so attractive?"

Is this a joke?! I mean, she is not a total woofer, but please.

"One challenge she has faced in the game is meeting her brother as a competitor. At the Tournament of Champions in 2004, "I wanted to knock Howard out with every molecule of my being," Ms. Duke said. "As soon as the hand was over, I thought, 'Oh, no, I knocked my brother out.' "

She was so upset that ESPN, which tapes the event, had to shut down filming for 15 minutes."

Pathetic.

Though she considers her former husband a wonderful father, the two were incompatible, she said: "He's kind of a square. He listens to the opera all day, and I listen to the White Stripes

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah yes, who could live with an opera listener.

And here I've been playing in these damn low stakes amateur tourneys where if you get upset and can't continue they just blind you off till you pull yourself together. Obviously there is something wrong with our format...

I would sneak behind my brother and subject him to the garote for $2M. That being said, I find it almost inconceivable that they didn't have a deal---and I know there is like 10,000 threads on that topic.
