OMG Phil hellmuth is so bad at poker!
OMG he's the worst poker pro in the world. After watching him on the TOC and 2005 world series, I just can't believe that anybody regards him as a great player.
Okay, so what that he has nine poker bracelets. THe fact of the matter is is that his gamestyle of chipping up and weak-tight play is outdated because of the new-age internet pro who effortlessly runs over hellmuth with their raises and reraises. His lack of poker bracelets and victories in the last two years is proof of his overating. He will likely never win another bracelet. His glory days are behind him. The major pros claim his cash game to be laughable. He just doesn't understand the need to be non-ABC and aggressive. All he does is fold all day. How can a player be good if he just folds all day? He should learn to just bet more aggressively and not get blown off his hands. All he seems to do is nut peddle. AFter watching him play on UB and whine about bad beats, I have to say that he is no better than some Joe Shmoe at a local casino. As an everyday player and 2+2 reader, with no real experience playing high-stakes poker or any real professional experience or real solid knowledge of the game, I know that he is an inadaquate player with a major ego problem. Feel free to follow this up 2+2 with claims about Phil Hellmuth and your praises of better players. Who do you think is better than Phil Hellmuth? Phil Ivey? Hoyt Corkins? -Joo |

And yeah, you don't need skill to win 9 bracelets. Just ask Doyle and Johnny, who've both won 10. When it comes to NLHE tournaments, the only player I would pick to stake over Hellmuth, is Ivey. |

Phil has made his living and supported himself by playing poker since he was what - 22 years old or something? He hasn't had a 9 to 5 job for 20 years (or ever) I guess that means he doesn't know how to play. For the last 20 years he has paid his rent, bought his groceries and put gas in his car with money he has won from playing poker. I dont know about his poker game, but he is pretty successfull in grabbing attention and publicity (makes great money from this).
Just look at this forum, not a day goes by where there is no thread about Phil. I wouldnt mind having a cult of people who have nothing better to do then post about how much I suck |

The man has made millions, literally, playing poker. Plus all the money he has made from endorsements, books, and all those crappy trinkets he sells like chip sets, bobbleheads, etc. Wipe the smegma off your lips, stop being jealous and go out and emulate his results.

If you're referring to his somewhat horrible laydown of A8 vs Matusow's push - he made a tournament fold. A fold to the bluff. Remember, we get to see all the hole cards...makes a difference in our "read". Additionally we see maybe 20-30% of the total hands that get played, if not less. Mike may have shown down AA or KK with that exact same kind of play and overbet in an unseen hand.
Granted it was 3 handed and A8 is a stronger hand in that situation - but was it really worth risking his tournament life in a major tournament where the real glory is playing for 1st? Maybe, maybe not. Phil believed he could wait for a better situation against Mike - one which never showed itself because Hoyt kept stomping him. What I do find funny about that fold was his reaction when Mike showed him the 83c - he was visibly shaken. |

I'm convinced some 2+2ers don't even read the information on the hold'em forums; they just waste their time here thinking up new reasons why their favorite pro is the greatest. Kudos 2+2... kudos. |

Doesn't the fact that we're watching him on tv indicate that he's made the final table of a tournament, and doesn't that suggest that he does have success against current players, internet aggressors included?
If you're refering to TOC, Helmuth's whining aside, he didn't enjoy the same luck as Matasow and Corkins when he (Helmuth) was short-stacked. |
