Home Poker Club - Your own home poker league website.

If you hold regular home tournaments, you can use this site to create your own home poker league and record your tournament results online.

I have fixed some bugs and made some enhancements:

20050624
- Fixed a bug with how the complete tournament details are displayed - now all players are
listed even if they have no points assigned to them.

20050618
- Changed tournament buy in form field to free form instead of drop down list.
- Set the default Profit/Loss value on the record tournament results page to negative
tournament buy in.
- Commented out some code required by an older version (champ final checks).
- Only display stats on club home page if tournaments for current season have been completed.

20050612
- Added option to delete news posts. Oops, I should have had this feature in the begining.

Please check it out: www.homepokerclub.net

Thx,

steve

Wow... thanks that site is great... its going to be a great way to help keep track of things. Too bad you can't search the club locations to find any in your area, but it still is going to be a very usefull tool.

Good idea - I'll make sure to build that enhancement in at some point...

Re: Home Poker Club - Your own home poker league website.

Hi All,

I've added the RSVP feature that most of the club owners suggested. Now your tournaments seats will be reserved for your league's members on a first come, first serve basis.

Here's a summary of the website's features:

- Create a home poker league website for your club.
- Add/remove players to your club.
- Create poker seasons.
- Schedule tournaments for your seasons, and have your members RSVP to each event.
- Record your league's tournament results on the web.
- View your season's standings, and your club's members' statistics (ROI, % in money, # tourney wins, points, etc.).
- Post news to your website/email news to your club's members.

www.homepokerclub.net

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thx!

I've added a new feature that allows club owners to add members to their club without Internet access.

Don't know why you aren't getting more replies, but now that you added the ability to add users who aren't online, this is perfect for my needs.

Just started a tournament series tonight, so I'll probably fill in all my info when I have a minute tomorrow.

p.s. When filling in info regarding tournaments, do you allow HTML? I'd like to add links to pictures, if possible.

You DEFINITELY need to add a club location to the site. I'd really like to join a group, to play poker with. Don't know anyone around here, who likes to play poker.

Yes - any html code will work. Keep in mind that the website automatically formats a line carraige return as an html <BR>.

Re: Home Poker Club - Your own home poker league website.

REQUEST: After tournament results are entered, could you have the text for the entry on the club home page change automagically from "Tournament Scheduled! A new tournament has been scheduled for 2005-07-09!" to "Tournament Completed! A new tournament was played on 2005-07-09!".

To add to that, it would be great if we could edit, rather than just delete any front page items.

AND A QUESTION: Like I said, this website is PERFECT for my needs, and came at JUST the right time, so now I don't have to do any of the dirty work myself. So my question is, do you take donations? Maybe add a paypal (or better yet, neteller) link on the homepage. I'd love to send you a few greenbacks for your work.

Etaipo 07-11-2005 03:17 PM

Re: Home Poker Club - Your own home poker league website.

Thought of a couple more feature suggestions.

Club members: When I manually add members, I can see their password in plain text. I was going to let you know about that, but I saw that for those who had changed their PW, they were no longer visible, good deal.

Would it be possible to make other members "admins", on a case by case basis. Lets say I had to go out of town, but everyone else wanted to have an event. I could give someone admin rights, rather than my password, so that they could add news, events, etc.

Seasons: Could you add the ability to modify the season? All you can currently change is the name, and whether it's the active season. It would be nice to be able to extend a season, should the need arrive.

That's it for the moment...I think.

Blah, I don't know why, but my signature isn't working on here.

Here is a link to Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy, my poker club. And for an idea of what you can do with the results, here's the results from our first tourney.

That's pretty cool stuff Etaipo. Too bad all of my friends are too lazy to open up a web browser for three seconds to do this. Anyhow, I was wondering now that you're keeping legitimate track of your home poker earnings what does this mean for the IRS?! If you look closely at my picture, you will notice that it's actually just play money from the Deluxe Monopoly(c)(tm) that's in my closet.

Poker for real money?!? That's just crazy.

Re: Home Poker Club - Your own home poker league website.

I will be adding a "transfer club ownership" feature.

I may be able to do something about updating the "tourney scheduled" news post.

I'm not sure what you mean by extending a season. There really isn't a time limit on a season, so I don't see the need for modifying one. Even if the season isn't current, you can still assign tournaments to it.

Finally, thanks for offering to donate! I'll definately put up a donation link one of these days...

What I mean is this...when you set up a season, you set a number of events (say, 10). Stats for the season are then based on the best 10 performances for each member, right.

But lets say when I set the season up, I was flying by ear, and set it to ten....but in reality, we're going to do 20 events...now, I'd either have to scrap the existing season and start over from scratch, re-inputting the existing data, or else the stats get screwed before the season ends.

Does that make sense?

I understand...

I will change it so the number of tourneys used for points calculations can be specified for each season.

Hehehe, alright.

I'm going to keep bothering you, because I don't want you to be bored, and I'm digging your site.

Suggestion #1225234: When, for instance, you click on the stats page and get everyone's full stats, the name of the player is a link. Clicking the link takes you to the players page with their full stats....

How about....could you make the users page configurable? It would be neat to be able to enter a bio for each player, their email address possibly, and maybe a picture.

Eh? Eeeeh?

Found a bug.

Found a bug. In the club info page, you can enter a VERY long description, which I did (fortunately I saved it in a text file).

After you save it, it gets cut off.

I haven't tested the other fields yet such as rules, but I assume the same thing will happen with them.

What is the character limit on these fields? Can you make it so that you can not enter more text than it will accept?

Also, a feature request. When scheduling tournaments and selecting the date, it would be nice to have a clickable calendar. Don't know how hard it would be to implement.

I'll keep throwing things like this your way as I come across them, if you don't mind. I'll also quit bugging you, if you'd like

Thanks. This has been fixed - I changed the data type to use the same that is used for the club and tourney rules.

A calendar would be nice but if it does happen, it won't be done for a long time - just too many other things to do.

Thx again for the feedback!

Bug report: News editing, please help

Hey Steve,

Great website. I've been using this to track all of our weekly tournaments.

Got a problem though. I was trying to enter in a hand summary into the Club News and must've goofed on the HTML. Anyways, I can no longer delete the news post (My HTML goof apparently killed the delete link.)

Can you tell me how to get rid of the post? The club page is the "MIT Micro-poker Club."

Also on an unrelated note, are there any plans to allow for UBB code for doing things like hand summaries or hand quizzes?

Re: Home Poker Club - Your own home poker league website.

The site is great, Stevea. I set up my club and put in some previous tounament stats for a test and I was really pleased.

I have a question for you with some back story: We have a couple of novice players in our game that come more for socializing than to win at poker. I was ready to roll your/our club site out to everyone in the game, and I showed it to another one of our club's members. He expressed concern about the ROI column. He fears that these guys might start to see their losses piling up and decide not to play anymore. They are co-workers and friends and excellent donators .

There's the wind up, here's the pitch: is it possible that a future release of homepokerclub.net would allow you choose which columns you want to track for your club? It's not like they couldn't multiply the number of games they've played by the buy-in, but he thinks seeing the number on the screen might make them quit.

I was hoping you'd know!

I think you'd need to pass the php form input to a document parser that converts UBB to HTML and dump the HTML code back onto the webpage. It seems like there should be a standard php module or library to convert the UBB code but I didn't find any during a quick google search.

Re: Home Poker Club - Your own home poker league website.

Don't know if this is feasible or not, but here is my dream scenario, if you will.

One message forum per club, linked on the left with everything else.

All news postings and tournament announcement automagically get duplicated as a new thread in the message forum.

That way, people could respond/discuss the issues/tournament from there.

Make sense? Don't know if that would be possible though.
