1st break, I have 10500, David Pham and John Pham at my table. Colson is playing 2 tables behind mine with John Cernuto and Lee Markholt at his table.

Two out of two twoplustwoers who have won big live tournaments recently lost most of their chips on day 1. Dump at least half your stack before the end of today.

Oh, and good luck!

Re: Reno WPT

Am I the only one who thinks that the payout schedules for the WPT events is kind of ridiculous?

592 entrants and only 36 get paid. Also, I feel like the difference between 6th ($85,370) and 1st ($1,052,890) is a bit ridiculous, especially with the High Blind structure at the FT of the WPT events.

Anyone else?

Re: Reno WPT

no, i agree C-Dog.

i think they are obsessed with giving the winner $1m or something.

it seems like the payout structure should pay like 60 players, and they really need to, just in general, flatten their final table structure. if 1st "only" gets $600,000, i think the public will get over it. it's not fair to the players IMO to have to play this almost "winner-take-all" format.

(un)fortunately, it's not a problem that affects me directly, but i feel bad for those players who it does affect.

Boxman 03-27-2006 08:53 PM

Re: Reno WPT

If WPT flattens the payout, Mike saying "This is a tough decision folks...the difference between 1st and 3rd is $189K!!!" doesn't have the same effect as "...over once million dollars! That real cash there Vince."

Re: Reno WPT

WPT likes having v big first place, and lots of plaes paying. That is a very impossible combination, and because of that everything in between like 6th and 200th or whatever, is going to be peanuts.

Re: Reno WPT

I had like 5400 left in the big blind with 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]; a guy that have been raising a lot made it 625 with 100-200 blinds and 25 ante. I called.
The flop came A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I checked, he c-bet as usual and bet 900. I went all in for 4900 total, he taught and decided to call with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and that was it.

The hand with the JJ, I raised to 300 with 50-100 blinds in MP, MP+1 reraised to 800, I called.
Flop came T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I checked, he bet 1300 and I called.

7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] in the turn, I checked, he bet 3000 and I folded.

Made it to day 2 with 56K. Not feeling great about my play today, but being lucky is fine with me. I never saw AA or KK, so I figure I'm due I just hope they hold up.

And no, I didn't flop any sets and get to check call all in.

Indeed, I am James Davis. Barron Gati(Dcifrths) is also alive with 36k. I have 41.4k and had the privelege of busting Daniel Negreanu(hell of a guy) and the Grinder(sleepy guy).

One notable hand, really early in the tournament and I have doubled up - another big stack who has been playing really weak who has me covered calls an EP raise and I call 22.

Flop is 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

EP bets, next guy makes it 900, i make it 3k with 27k, folded to the caller who instantly makes it 9k. He isn't the type to press a flush draw here, so I figure I'm only ahead of AA. I fold it, he looks disgusted and mucks. I guess we'll never know!

Meh, I view it as a lottery for the avg. donk. I have seen amateurs do well occasionally, and if I ever find myself in that situation, I'd rather swing for the fences. There's always the WSOP for flatter pay-outs.

I'd just like to quote this from pokerwire:

Shuffle up and Deal
The cards are in the air on day two of the WPT World Poker Challenge. The blinds will start at 400-800 with a 100 ante. There are 181 remaining and we are scheduled to play down to 27 players.

Fast enough structure? Get rid of over 83% of the field in one day? That's as high a percentage as they get rid of on the final day!

Re: Reno WPT

200K at dinner break. I was down to 130 to start the last level so I'm happy. I also just got moved from the table of death which was huge for me. Carlos behind me, Richard Brodie behind him, Gavin Smith two to my right with Freddy Deeb on his right. Everyone had chips, I seriously felt helpless.
