Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
Two recent polls have Bush's job approval at 42%, by far the lowest ever for a President at this point in his term.
With only a few thousand Iraqi troops ready to do battle alone, and the Republican-led Congress snubbing Bush seemingly at every opportunity, it doesn't seem the news is going to get better anytime soon. Could we possibly see a President drop into his 30s? |
Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
he was always lame - now he's just a lame duck....all his bullying can't get him what he wants now - the Rep's all have to stop doing what Der Fuhrur wants and start doing what they want to get reelected -

Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
I think its difficult to say how low his potential is. There are people who support a candidate simply because of their party or because of single issues. I'm under the impression that many deeply religious folks LOVE him simply because of his religousness (that doesn't look like its spelled right but I'm too lazy to look it up).
How many Broken Glass and Jaxmike's are out there? More then 30%? |
Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
People are results oriented, so it really depends on where the country is.
I will say, for Bush to have a lower than 35% approval rating, something absolutely catastrophic must happen in the next few years. It's much easier for Bush's approval rating to get higher right now. |

How many Broken Glass and Jaxmike's are out there? More then 30%? [/ QUOTE ]Well the country is split about 33 Rep/ 33 Dem/ 33 Independent, and independents are usually just closet Republicans or closet Democrats, so I'd estimate the floor of absolute diehards wearing blinders is about 33%. I don't think even Nixon could have dropped below that. |

Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
We haven't even considered that a good number of people simply don't pay attention or care about politics. I'm not certain if those people approve or disapprove or if anything in the news interests them beyond whether Brad Pitt is screwing Angelina Jolie and if Michael jackson was diddling little boys.

Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
BGC has a point. Bush went on a speaking campaign to promote his Social Security Plan. You'll remember how that nearly died until he spoke in support of it. And now everyone loves his Soc Sec plan.

Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
Bush will probably end his term with less than a 50% approval rating. However, the Republicans will still celebrate his legacy during the next presidential election and they will still win, to the continuing befuddlement of the Democrats

Bush Only Cares About Polls in November.........It is ...
....Democrats who try to govern by polls.
Leadership is doing the right thing even if it is unpopular. I hope the next US President will be a TRUE conservative who slashes the size of govt. Bush43's "compassionate conservatism" is actually 'Democrat-Lite'. I had hopes Bush43 could be another Reagan but I'll have to wait. |

[/ QUOTE ] I wonder if poor Felix knows that Bush Jr. spent a record amount of money on focus groups in his first term? I enjoy people who think that only Democrats pay attention to polls. I wonder if he noticed Bush changing his stance on issues that polled against his beliefs? Like when he softened his stance on Stem Cells in his first term and continued to allow federal funding? Or how he's altered his Social Security plan because he was getting killed in the polls? |

Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
Let the shunning begin:
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/ar...627/27bush.htm Sen. Chuck Hagel is angry. He's upset about the more than 1,700 U.S. soldiers killed and nearly 13,000 wounded in Iraq. He's also aggravated by the continued string of sunny assessments from the Bush administration, such as Vice President Dick Cheney's recent remark that the insurgency is in its "last throes." "Things aren't getting better; they're getting worse. The White House is completely disconnected from reality," Hagel tells U.S. News. "It's like they're just making it up as they go along. The reality is that we're losing in Iraq." |
Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
I haven't been to many political websites lately. But, I checked in on Rasmussen Reports and the have a daily tracking poll of Bush's job approval. It currently stands at 51%. However, the previous week had it in a range of 48-50.
|
Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
Scott Rasmussen's polls are always more pro-Republican than all the others.
|
Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
Actually, even that is failing him now. After his most recent PR appearance, I mean political speech, his numbers didn't move. His approval ratings remain in the low 40's (43 in the Zogby poll taken after the speech) and 42% would be in favor of impeachment hearings if it was found that he misled the nation into war. (DUH!)
His numbers remain positive in the South, but he has slipped well below 50% in every other region of the country. In fact he slipped below 45% in SIX states that he carried in the 04 election, including Ohio. |

Maybe the Reps changing the rules of the Senate will help with that. |

Or maybe finding some proof that Bush deliberately mislead Congress and America into war? Who knows?

Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
Bush's approval ratings as they are currently will not be a factor at all in whether he will be an effective campaigner or his place in history.
I don't really like any of the choices. I would doubt that they can go much lower regardless of any events. |
Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
I don't know that the numbers will show, but I know that several people I know who voted for him last election now wish they hadn't.
And if it's true that his numbers go up when he speaks, then it's probably simply because people feel sorry for him. |

For those of you who are too busy to click on Grey's link,
Bush's overall approval is now 36%, his handling of the Economy is 33%. These numbers are LOWER than Nixon's just prior to Watergate. The poll consisted of 35% registered republicans, 37% registered Democrats and 28% independents.... |

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, and when the conservative magazine The Economist polls academic economists, they're polling people stupider than you and the FoxNews viewers. http://www.economist.com/images/20041009/CUS756.gif |
Re: Will Bush Drop into the 30s?
First off, I rarely watch Fox News or any TV news for that matter. I stick to newspapers and online sources. Secondly, the Economist can hardly be described as conservative. I think they are pretty middle of the road actually. But all they did was conduct this poll apparently so that doest really matter. Do you really think that the "academic economists" have no bias in their beliefs? Why not take an objective look at the current economic indicators and tell what your evaluation of them is? Which academic economists were they? I have to say that you are becoming the forum's master of poll misusage.
Last point. This poll was from sometime around the election I am assuming, since it talks about Kerry? What exactly does that poll (about possible results of proposed economic plans) have to do with the current state of the economy? |
