I\'m baaaaaaaack
After a great vacation, lots of tequila and some beautiful women, I'm back at the table. 6-max is where I'm at now, and it feels much more natural, although I haven't played many hands yet. I'm really focusing on hand reading, and I feel like this hand is one situation I find myself in a lot. My biggest question is that I feel awkward on the turn here. It seems like a scared value bet, which seems intrinsically wrong to me. I should be value betting when I know I'm ahead, and here, i certainly don't know that.
Party Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.10/$0.25 5 players Converter Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is SB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] UTG, folds, CO (poster) checks, Button folds, Hero calls $0.15, BB (poster) checks. Flop: 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($0.75, 3 players) Hero bets $1, BB folds, CO calls $1. Turn: 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($2.75, 2 players) Hero bets $2, CO calls $2. River: 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($6.75, 2 players) Hero checks, CO checks. Results: Final pot: $6.75 Anybody raise pf here? BTW, I cleaned up in the little poker games we played in our hotel over the vacation, so that made me feel a little better |

WELCOME BACK !!!!!!!!!

Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
I usuallt get things wrong but PFR - no way, never, and no - that is my humble opinion. I would also play the hand carefully, there is not much money on table and you never know what ppl have when there is no monetary pressure.

Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
Value bet river.
|
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
I play it exactly the same, maybe only bet .50-.75 on flop but that is splitting hairs. No PF raise either. Why do you feel the turn is a scared bet?
What do you do if he bets river? |
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
maybe this is weak-tight, but I feel like when I bet the flop and am called (with no reads, btw) I am behind. What is he calling me with on this flop? I feel like occasionally this is a 7, but the vast, vast majority this is an A. And most A's here beat me. I would have c/c a small river bet and c/f a big one. Perhaps this is bad?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, it is weak-tight. I bet flop and bet turn, and assume I'm ahead until someone puts in a raise. As played, you should bet $3-4 on the river for value. Checking (especially if you are going to call a bet) is leaving money on the table. |
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
i raise this pre flop, seems like a couple of ppl say this is a bad idea, but something ive noticed is that some1 posting and there first hand, is the next best thing to free money, they dont want to take you on when they have no idea who you are and BB gives you more credit for a hand since your raising over a limper.
u get more hands calling u on the flop if u bet someting like 1/2 to 2/3 |
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
out of curiosity isura, what range do you put villain on?
|
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
I value bet the river putting villian on a weak A, weak PP, or a 7. And no, I do not raise this preflop OOP with A9o.

Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
Oh and welcome back man!

Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
Isura will answer this better than I but I'll take a shot.
Before the flop action the range is any 2 cards ATo or worse because there was no PFR from CO. By calling the flop sl. overbet villain likes something about their hand but they don't give you credit for much either because you only completed SB preflop and you look like you are trying to steal. I would put villain on a weak ace or 7 and keep betting until they show otherwise - 1/2 pot on river. |
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
welcome back, good luck with 6max
|
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
I think that whether a river value bet is in order is dependent on your image and your opponent's tendencies.

Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
jeez how many people did quark tell I'd gone busto?
I'm low, but i'm not there yet. And I'm sure even if I did, I could spring for a couple more hundo's after a little bit. As for this hand, I just felt after I was called on the turn that I was tied at best. Villain held AJ and MHNG. Not even being results oriented, I feel like the vast majority of the times I bet this turn (or similar situations) and am called, I am holding a 2nd best hand. Although, I suppose that b/f the river is better if I am planning on calling a bet of some kind anyways. |
Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
im glad you took my suggestion to take a break. I guarennttee it will work to your benefit.

Re: I\'m baaaaaaaack
in other news my BB/100 slides to 2.75BB/100 @ NL25 thru 10k hands. i know I can beat the game but I find lately i'm picking up the small pots but losing the big ones. not sure if it's variance or play. ugh.
