Cable channels you would actually pay for...
 

So last week on Howard Stern they were saying something about the FCC wanting to make cable channels "opt in." So basically, you only pay for the channels you want and not get charged for useless crap channels you will never watch. Obviously the cable companies don't want this, but if it was to ever happen, what channels would be in your menu?

Existing pay channels dont count.

ESPN, ESPN2. everything else i can just get in other ways or watch on broadcast TV.

First of all, there is no way this will ever happen.

I'd pay for ESPN, ABC due to Lost, who knows what else. I guess it depends on how much stuff is. I'd have to go through my Tivo to see what I actually watch. Probably MTV cause I love their crap shows.

Again though, it would be absurdly retarded if this ever happens since it would kill all the niche networks that lots of people realy like.

ESPN, ESPN2 are musts. I wouldn't mind TNT and TBS, although if I had to pay for it, it would depend on how much they cost. I'd much rather pay for HBO instead, since I'd prob only watch TNT and TBS for movies.

That's about it. I'd also def buy Fox Sports Detroit, and get rid of the MSG and YES garbage thats in NY. Sporting Events don't really matter as much, since I always have NBA League Pass anyways. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

In addition to some of the ones already mentioned, the Game Show Network. I recently decided to axe some of our extra cable TV costs, which meant going to a lesser package. The channel I miss most is GSN.

I think realistically there's no shot in hell of there ever being a check off list of each channel with like $2 or $5 per month next to them. But I can see them settling on a more package based idea. Sort of like the game bundles you get with a new console. 3 games u want and a couple of clunkers they throw in to boost sales numbers.

Sports Package
Male Interest
Female Interest
Drama
Comedy


Either way it makes more sense then the "one size fits all" junk they offer now. The only real choice now is Basic and Extended with premium channels additional.

The thing is I would be able to find a good alternative I don't have to pay for if they took away the stations I like most. For example, if they made you pay for ESPNews I would just watch ESPN1+2 or just use the internet. They make me pay for Comedy Central? I would just buy the seasons of shows I like on DVD.

Real dumb idea if they decided to ever do it. It will never happen so we won't have to worry about it.

A prerequisite would be that they all broadcast in HD.

Science Channel, National Geographic, Discovery (all), ESPN (all), INHD (all), UHD, A&E (all), AMC, History (all).

I don't want this to happen, though, since I'm pretty sure my lineup would be solely channels that would die through attrition in a few years.

I'd pay $5 per month to get rid of crap like ABC, NBC, CBS, MTV, VH1, and the like. I'm pretty sure that our society as a whole is dumber because of their existence.

espn, tnt, tbs, cartoon network (specifically adult swim), maybe usa, discovery, comedy central, food network, maybe FX. maybe spike.

ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports, TBS, TNT, USA, Comedy Central, E!, FX, Spike TV, Food Network, Hisory Channel, AMC, Bravo, MTV, Vh1, Travel Channel. I watch a lot of TV.

City- for Seinfeld episodes
CBC for HNIC and Olympic/other sorts coverage-Brier, amateur sports.

while I enjoy ESPN, it is one of the most expensive channels on cable TV and I think I'd probably opt out. I just don't watch it often enough for the enjoyment I get out of it.

Some must haves:
comedy central
FX
history channel
discovery
spike (I love the amazing videos/COPS trash)
TNT (law and order/old cheesy movies factor)

ABC,CBS,FOX,NBC and local WB only because they carry the Cavs games that Fox Sports Ohio doesn't.

Oh, and to keep the kids quiet, Disney, Toon Disney, Nick Jr, PBS Kids, etc.

I'm sure the wife would require Court TV, A&E and any other channel that have all those Forensic files/Cold Case shows on them.
