Adderall and Online Poker

I dont have ADD or anything, but its pretty common nowadays for adderall to be taken to help complete alot of homework, stay up late and study, etc.

I've never actually tried the stuff, and am cautious to do so. A friend gave me a couple the other day and I am considering trying it. From what I've been told, and what I've read, this drug seems like it would be the equivelant of steroids for poker.

Helps your concentration, lets you sit and fold 85% of your hands easily, makes you want to be productive for hours and hours on end. I've pretty much read that one aderall pill can make you play your A-game for 6-12 hours and enjoy it.

If this is true, the EV of taking these meds is ridiculously high... I play poker professionally, and average about 150-200$ an hour doing so. My only problem lately has been that it has been extremely difficult playing full-time hours.

Anybody do this regularly? I'd love someone to respond with some personal experience.

Negative side effects from long term use? Short term use?

If I were to like it and wanted to do it regularly for work, would 5 times a week be overboard? Should I restrict it to weekends?

Oh yeah, and does it have any negative side effects when mixed with THC?

Thx all

One common side affect from Wikipedia: "decreased sexual desire and/or ability (in males)" I hope thats enough to keep you from doing this.

Haha, I guess I'll have to see about that part. I should have enough of an... apetite to withstand it

Technically, pot does the same thing. But Sex, Pot, and Poker are still my favorite things (in order).

Is your health worth the extra money? I think your getting a little greedy and stupid. I make around what you make, and that is VERY good.

I've thought of using this stuff too(and I have ADD), but in the end it's not worth it. Why pollute your body?

Haha idiot

OP,

My argument against it - gl playing without it after you start. I have a good amount of friends who can't study without it.

My question was how much does it pollute your body.

You obviously dont have an answer

Thanks for the help bro, that was great.

Because your friends do it, it makes it safe and ok.

Supposedly meth is great for playing poker and doing homework. It keeps you awake and alert and helps you lose weight too! I mean Hitler gave it to his troops, so it must be good.

BTW adderall is addictive FYI

Right now, as far as my health goes, i dont have anything to distinguish adderall from a [censored] diet coke. Try not to reply if you arent going to be helpful.

2 things here:

1) you are overestimating the effect of aderral. for one thing, it's not a wonder drug, the conscious effect is actually pretty subtle.

2) it does rule. i take it as often as possible. I'm no doctor, but it can't be worse for you than caffeine. As with everything, just don't do it every day.

THIS IS A SERIOUS RESPONSE...

if the results you are looking for is endurance and concentration, meth is the answer. after meth would be ritalin and adderall.

all of these substances have a huge downside. that downside is addiction that can cause depression, suicidal thoughts, and inability to function without the substances.

i know a poker writer that thought pain medication was his answer. he had pain for sure, but it made him feel good to take the opiates as well. he ended up blowing his head off. just like you feel that there is a "real" medical benefit to taking adderall, he too started with that same excuse/justification.

it is absolutely not worth it. please drop it from your mind.

Thanks for the well thought-out response Granny.

At this point I am 100% sure I will at least try it, but you've convinced me to limit it (if i like it).

You do have to keep in mind. I just turned 21. I drink, I smoke, I trip on shrooms once every couple months. I'm going to experiment with dangerous [censored] whether or not it helps me.

But you have made me much more cautious about it. Unless it really is a wonder drug that results in 2 grand every time i take one, I doubt i'll do it more than once a week.

Thx gran

I wouldn't even try it if I were you. It's speed and you could become very addicted to it. I've had a couple friends ruin their lives because of meth. The potential bad outweighs any amount of good (which is probably not much) you could get from it.

lol @ the comparisons of adderall to meth. That's like comparing a prop plane to a fighter jet. Yes, adderall is an amphetamine, so is caffeine. It is not similar to crystal meth at all. You want to know what adderall is like? Chug two redbulls in succession and you pretty much got it.

I take Straterra, and its the only attention drug out there that is NOT an amphetamine. I actually have a prescription for it, and I tried ritalin before straterra came out (and before poker), but ritalin was way too much for me. My mind started racing, and I couldn't stop thinking about whatever I had been studying. You don't really get that with straterra, and you still have to make an effort to concentrate on something, but it helps you do it much better and for longer. Plus, with Straterra, you don't get people trying to buy it from so they can suck it up their nose.

When I was at Commerce, a random girl gave me some adderall. I played, by far, the best poker of my life while on it. I've only had it that one time. I want to try it again eventually, but I have no where to get it. I have been warned by *a lot* of people that it's a bad idea.

I don't think it's worth it for me because I am so unstable and I have an addictive personality.

I took it in college for studying and have thought about it for poker. I can pretty much guarantee a huge improvement in both your play and your poker endurance. Either that or you will end up with the cleanest room in your life and have played zero hands. Check the medical concerns yourself. You never know, millions and millions of kids could be on the verge of spontanious combustion from this stuff.

i didn't mean to compare adderall to meth in saying they are the same, however they are in the same family. meth is much stronger and would be the next logical step for someone wanting more. i've done a good amount of both and am familiar with the effects. chugging two redbulls is not a good comparison imo.

Re: Adderall and Online Poker

My girlfriends father got some online without a prescription and he gave me like 4 pills. I did not know it was adderall but he had mentioned that fighter pilots use to keep focus for long hours. Someone else mentioned it in the thread so now I know it was adderal.

I had alot of illegal ephedrine pills(which is legal againBTW) that I would use for poker every now and then. But that stuff can make you unfocused and jittery too. He told me adderall wouldn't do that but it was an upper. So I was glad to have em. My girlfriend accidently threw them away though and I never got to try them. I have been planning to get them from him again at some point. Nice I ran into this thread to remind me.

Anyways everyone is overly paranoid about drugs here in the U.S. If you are a level headed guy, responsible, intelligent, bla bla bla you should take the pills. When I get them I'm sure I'll take them on Fridays and saturdays. It would be nice to 10 table 10 hours straight and stay focused. Especially during the peak days of the week.

Most adults are reasonable enough to know if they have addictive personalities. Taking Adderal once is not going to kill you, it won't make you suicidal, and you will be able to gauge the worth of the pills for what you are doing. It sounds like you are familiar with drugs already. I don't think there is anything wrong with trying adderal if your a level headed person.

Re: Adderall and Online Poker

On a side note being healthy is probably the best thing you can do for your focus. I always drink green tea when I start my sessions. Go for jogs in the morning and try to work out 3 times a week. I don't think I would be able to play as much poker as I do if I didn't do these things.
