Bond Casino Royale Update

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
I don't like it. It doesn't even sound like James Bond. If they were going to completely change the character, why not just give him a different name?

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
One one hand, they needed to do something to spruce up that franchise. On the other, the 're-invention' is usually one of the last steps towards total oblivion.

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
I'm looking forward to it. But nothing matters until opening night.

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
People freaked out when Pierce Brosnan took over, but I thought he came through in fine form. I think Craig is going to be an excellent Bond. I had issues with the bond girl at first, she is growing on me.

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
Who knows. Maybe this is the beginning of the end....maybe it'll be a return to form after all this Pierce Brosnan garbage. Nothing against Pierce Brosnan, I'm sure he could have made a fine Bond if he'd been given the chance.

[/ QUOTE ] They did the same thing with the Batman franchise. Worked out okay there. I'm optimistic. I've boycotted the last two Bond flicks, so I'm primed for this one. But cutting down on the ridiculous gadgets/villains is a good start. |

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
Quentin Tarantino begged the producers to let him write and direct Casino Royale. They turned him down because they were worried he would stick to the tried and true formula.
The Bond Producers are known as some of the worst producers to work for...its also the reason they got stuck with Daniel Craig. Everyone else they asked to play the role turned them down. Craig=Timothy Dalton w/ blond hair |
Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
Of course I did. The article pointedly showed that the story dynamics and Bond character itself is going back to the "basics", so to speak...and that means the source material. The literary Bond is not a superhero, and doesn't rely on overly cheesy gadgets. I have no problem with them straying from the "Casino Royale" story itself, since it couldn't support a two hour movie in and of itself. The character is being taken in a more "realistic" direction, and I think that's the right way to go with it. Just my opinion, of course.

I'm sure it will be a good movie, and while I'm watching I'll still be irritated by what they've done to it. |
Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
i'm too lazy to do the research...how close is this story gonna be to the original "Casino Royale" w/ David Niven, Peter Sellers, et al.?
|
Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
Not very. The only similarities will be in character names and a pivotal gambling event (whether its baccarat, like the novel, or HE as rumored I don't know). This is more of a character/series reboot.

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
The book is a great little read, FWIW.

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
Man this is a great idea and great recasting. I loved Daniel Craig in Layer Cake and Munich, he's definitely got the chops and look to pull this off. I remember after leaving the last Bond movie with the invisible cars and space lasers or whatever the eff I had an idea for a new Bond movie, where Bond starts out in Cold War-era East Berlin, and we see him take a bullet to the gut in the first few seconds of the film and the rest of the movie is him hiding in dark alleys and trying to heal, while fighting homeless people for their shelters. The last part about homeless people just sounds funny and wasn't serious, but I really wanted a new, grittier Bond, and this looks like it!

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
I stopped watching Bond after the Bourne movies came out. I am ecstatic to hear this. For once, producers are actually doing what I'd have wanted them to.
For far too long James Bond has been this cartoon who could do anything with this smug little [censored] eating grin on his face. He *ought* to be some guy who you'd piss your pants seeing, not laugh. |
Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
it will be completely awesome if they film this movie at the table games section in Casino Royale Vegas.

Re: Bond Casino Royale Update
The Bourne comparison is a good one.

When Connery did it, especially at the start, he looked like he would put a bullet or a fist through you if you so much as cracked a joke. He had a calm but determined menace to him that I really liked. Just not a man to mess with at all. If he had a joke, unless you were on his team, it might not well be for the likes of you. I got the idea that if he wanted to extract information from you, he was gonna get it and you'd better just start talking before things got really bad. |
