In July 2005, Vick was arrested for speeding, and police found marijuana in his car. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving and no contest to possession of marijuana.

Virginia Tech has called an 11 a.m. news conference Saturday to address the incident at the Gator Bowl involving Vick. The school said University President Charles Steger, Director of Athletics Jim Weaver and Beamer will take part in the news conference.

to be honest,

i think the only chance marcus has to actually develop into an nfl starting qb is to get drafted or traded to atlanta and sit under his brother for a few years. if he goes anywhere else the chances of him robbing a convenience store after signing a $20 MM contract are just too high.

Their situation isn't really all that similar at all. Marcus will be fine, he just can't handle the rules of a college environment. Too bad, I had hoped he settled down a bit. The WVU flip off was a laugh riot (I mean really, who wouldn't flip off WVU fans??) but the elvis stomp was complete [censored]. Speeding ticket??? Whoopde frickin do.

I'm kind of far away, but the impression here in Central Illinois has been that VT's success the last decade has been a major reason Penn St is not the force year-in and year-out that they once were. The theory bounced around here is that V Tech is getting a large percentage of the DC and Tidewater area recruits, which were pretty fertile Nittany Lion breeding grounds. Is this correct?

I think to some degree that is the case although I don't know exactly how much Penn State used to rely on VA for recruiting. This was actually a subject that was talked about quite a bit a few years ago when not only did Va Tech (along with UVA) keep most of the best recruits in Va but went and grabbed the #1 recruit in the country (Kevin Jones) right out from under the nose of Penn St.

It's been an issue, but Penn St. is getting better down towards the DC area (e.g. Derrick Williams). We're having problems in state competing with Notre Dame, Michigan and Pitt.

Getting off the hijack, What makes Marcus Vick think he can just step up to the next level? What round would he be drafted in?

Vick is probably 4th round at the earliest. I think Vick was going to be given every chance in the world to fail miserably as a QB but he [censored] it up badly. Now I guess he'll be thrown at WR.

I guess he figures he should cash in now while he's only been kicked out of one college.

I think he'll be drafted in the first round.

Only two months ago everyone was saying he was a better quarterback than his brother, who was drafted #1. While clearly an inferior runner, he's shown that he has the potential to be a much better passer than Michael. Sure he's shown a penchant for totally choking in big games, but he played a lot better against Florida State after the Miami debacle. Given his name, it's hard to imagine a lot of teams passing on him given the total shitstorm they have at their quarterback position. The Raiders would be a perfect fit.

Also, if Maurice Clarett can get draftd in the 3rd round, surely Vick can go in at least the top 2.

People questioned the pick that high, and it turns out the criticism was justified. Broncos blew the pick and could probably have had him in the 5th or 6th round. I don't see Vick going on the first day.

Clarett had a year off from organized ball and was fat. Not so with Vick. He just can't control his temper on the field (WVU and StompGate) and isn't careful with his driving.

Two completely different situations. He's 3 times the passer that big brother was. All Mike did was throw bombs to Andre Davis and scramble. Marcus was a much more complete QB, but half the scrambler.

If he can become more discipline, he has the tools to excel.

Uh, because he just got thrown out of school? I highly doubt he would've been a first rounder this year even if he hadn't proved himself a clueless douche. He's not some great prospect.
