Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
This is borderline Internet forum stuff but I am more interested in the NL game quality side of it.
I am still at the beginning of my NL 6 max days currently at NL100 but will be looking to move up asap rather than making a living from the game at this level, I would hope to be a regular at NL400 6 max by year end. I tend to be 1-2 tabling and focusing on trying to improve than just knocking hands out for profit. However I am still unsure which site is the best for me to focus on. I play 1000-7000 hands a month so am not going to get to VIP status on Party and will be struggling to maintain Silver status on Stars. There are probably three main areas I want to consider to sway my decision each way. 1 Player club, Points on party suck for a NL player however I have unmentionables there as well VIP club is doubtful so no bonuses, Stars I can get more points but may struggle month on month to maintain status, there may be bonuses in the future. Does unmentionables make this an obvious decision? 2 Quality of games, I play UK evening so tends to be at times between 12-6PM EST. Both sites seem busy at this time , I dont have any datamined hands for this level but it always seems easier to spot mutlitablers (prob 2+2ers) on Party than on Stars, any opinions on difficulty of the games on each site? 3 Moving up, which site is better for moving up the limits, does one site have a big jump in quality at a different time to another, are the games significantly different/ better available on one or the other sites, particulary at the off peak times I want to play. Or should I consider other sites to make my main one? |

Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
According to PT, I win 25PTBB/100 between 10 pm and 1 am on Stars. I win 7/100 between 6 pm and 9pm. I don't win jack anytime before 6 pm. So if you go with Stars, play late at night at the juiciest table you can find - and they are out there, trust me. Just don't sit at a table full of multi-tablers.
I'm trying my hardest not to go back to Party because I hate everything about them and their software. So, if my nightly winrate continues, I'll stick with Stars. Edit: I play 50 NL 6max. |
Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
I don't play at your levels, so I can't speak with authority, but in the cheap seats, I see one big problem at Stars: the default buyin.
For some stupid reason, Stars allows a 100 BB buyin, but when you sit down, the DEFAULT buyin is 40 BBs. Now, I can't speak for how it works at the higher levels, but at the $25NL and $50NL tables, MANY people buy in for that default amount. The $25NL tables therefore look very much like a $10NL table with an abnormally large blind. It really takes a bite out of your upside. Also, with such small buyins, postflop play becomes less important and some players become nearly pushbots. If you're great at playing against shorty, try Stars. If you prefer deep stacks, stay at Party. Unless someone more knowledgeable says that the higher stakes tables work differently.... |

Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
The buy in factor happens at the $100 as well, I dont have enough hands to practice good table selection but I try to sit down at tables with decent money on them.

Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
I don't play at the hours you mention. Any site that has over 25k players should be fishy no matter what time of day. If FFPs do not interest you, then play Party and collect the unmentionable.
BTW - Isn't there a UK ring (Ladbrokes or William Hill) that is supposed to be fishy as well? I have no direct knowledge about these sites, but have read about them here and there. |
Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
B2B network is pretty fishy and mostly european. Very bad loose aggressive for the most part though, so can be a big change of pace adjustment. Lots of solid bonuses at the various sites too.

Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
There is Ladbrokes its Europe only so a lot of UK and Swedes and others, its on Prima type software but its own platform so doesnt share the players of Prima.
I am unsure of the fishyness of the games though, when I had looked in the past the game selection wasnt big, although that was at limit so probably understnadable. Could be worth another look. Some of the decent UK players I have spoke to have always reckoned you are better off playing in sites with Americans in the majority. |
Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
I'm quite interested in what you decide, davey, as I'm a UK evening player myself...
I'm trying Ladbrokes right now but I haven't played enough there to offer much insight. Seems to be a lot more 6max tables than full ring which would suit you. [ QUOTE ] Some of the decent UK players I have spoke to have always reckoned you are better off playing in sites with Americans in the majority. [/ QUOTE ] But wouldn't the American games be better after 6pm EST (4am GMT)? If you're doing this professionally, I guess you could keep odd hours but that would probably piss me off quickly. Too much like real work! [ QUOTE ] B2B network is pretty fishy and mostly european. Very bad loose aggressive for the most part though, so can be a big change of pace adjustment. Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
I'm in the UK too and have played alot of 100nl at both sites. Given when you will be playing and the unmentionable party is your no-brainer choice.
Paul p.s. If you chose party go here poker mods to cure partys disgusting interface. |
Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
can someone PM me the said unmentionable details if they are what I think they are? I am not being compensated. And in my first day stars seems to play way different than party at 100NL 6m

Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
6-max 100NL at doyles room= FISH....give that site a try, but i prefer party over stars
|
Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
Made a try but didn't liked it. Was there short time, but looked like people wanted to improve, and it's not possible to see mucked hands even at the hand history (also it's difficult to understand hand history). I think at the USA lots of people plays poker, at Europe mostly people who wants to become a player etc ... regards, dardo |
Re: Stars v Party Where to Play (LC)
I have been pleasantly surprised at the 1-2 NL 6Max games at Stars. Haven't played at Party in awhile, but they were good too.
