Gambling too much?

I haven't played much no-limit Holdem, mostly a 7-stud player.

I guess I am gambling too much here?

$2-$5, $200 max buy-in at The Bellagio.

Before this hand I had increased my stack to $400, my main opponent has about $225

Pre-flop: couple limpers, I limp with 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], a limper behind me, plus the blinds, 6 players, pot is $30

Flop: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]-8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]-6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4 checks, I check, last position bets $30, folded to me I raise $75, after about 10 seconds my opponent goes all-in for about another $115, I call

About my opponent, he would limp there with T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], not with T7off I believe. Would limp with a medium pocket pair there, raise a big pocket pair. I don't think he would gamble his stack on a mere flush draw so I was pretty certain he had a made hand of some sort.

He had 98 for top two and I bricked out and doubled him through.

Looks fine, although you should be raising more on the flop than $75. $75 is just a bit more than a minraise, and isn't gonna make anything decent fold here.

looks good. I would raise to whatever ammount is most likely to get a fold. w/o knowing the game, $100 sounds about right,

Warning, results oriented thinking follows:
you were flipping against his range, and you had like 2.5:1 pot odds. calling was correct.

do they also have a 2/5 500max? or is that the only 2/5 game they have? i've never played at the bellagio.

Re: Gambling too much?

1. Bet at the flop here. Bet the pot. If your opponent raises you, make a decision to either take a stand and push all your chips or to fold. What you did here was basically committ yourself to the pot, while giving him a chance to put all his chips in. Force him to make a harder decision by betting out.

2. If you are going to check/raise, then push all-in.

Silverlining -
Due to effective stack sizes, a c/r all in is much better than a b3b. b3b has no folding equity as villain will be pot comitted by the time you 3bet.
