Black Friday 2007

It's that time of year again. Time to fight those crowds of crazy people in order to get the best bargain possible on the dreaded day known as Black Friday.

We are one week away from the big event, and just so you can stay ahead of the game, here are some helpful links to get you started.

http://www.bfads.net
http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com
http://www.fatwallet.com/c/1/
http://www.theblackfriday.com
http://www.blackfridayhome.com
http://www.blackfriday.info

This year on my BF list is decent cheap laptop, GPS unit, and TV. I have been monitoring a couple of sites for the past two weeks or so, watching the new deals pop up for all of the stores.

This thread could be a good discussion of good deals that some of you are finding. Also helpful would be if any of you own some of the products that are going to be discounted on Friday, could give us your reviews on some items.

The day is drawing near, let the madness begin!

Re: Black Friday 2007

The people I don't understand are the idiots that go shopping on "Black Friday" but like late morning or afternoon.

You either have to go balls to the wall and get there at 4am or don't bother. What is the point of showing up after all of the great deals are done, but you still have to put up with the millions of people?

Tip: Whichever store you want to go, find the one in the richest and smallest town around you. I've found that ones near cities/colleges seem to be the worst, and its not just size of population, its what % of that population is willing to get up at 4am.

I've heard of people slightly raising prices and advertising it as a Black Friday sale.

nothing is really exciting me about the TV's either. i have my heart set on a 46" or 52" Samsung, and there's nothing even close to that yet. i may be using my onecall.com gift certificates from stars and pricematching with amazon.com to get a good deal.

LOL, yeah, there's no way this could possibly be accurate.

I plan on doing the 4am thing this year. Some of the deals are just too good to pass up. I'm looking forward to the Best Buy BF flyer.

But seriously, I was mainly looking for a good TV deal this year, but finding a good deal thus far as many other posters have stated has been a problem. Other than that I could care less.

Of course they are mutually exclusive. If a store has 50% of its sales on a single day, then obviously the remaining 50% has to be divided among 364 other days. There is no way it can account for 50% of sales if it is not the biggest shopping day of the year.

Re: Black Friday 2007

The original post of the chain said "some stores." It may be the fifth or sixth biggest sale day of the year in total, but some specific retailers could clear 50%. Nitpicking LDO.

Re: Black Friday 2007

99% of stores don't do anywhere near 50% of their biz on Black Friday. For the major players who have the big sales that day this is very much true. The Saturday before Christmas is the biggest volume day for these stores usually. Was the case 4 of the past 5 years.

The standard move is to double all your base prices then advertise 50% off.

Smart people buy their gifts on Dec. 27 and celebrate in January.

The only stores that have >50% of revenue on a single day are stores that are opened only two days per year.

Solids and Heater ...

There is no need to wait the ads are already out there look at the links around here (although a couple of retailers got pissy this year and had theirs taken down.... Macys, Lowes, Wal-mart, Linen N Things, thankfully I don't look to them for turkey day sales).

Best Buy is out there look for it.

FWIW I work in the Fragrance Industry and it has been recorded that 50% of the entire industry's yearly sales occur in the last 2 weeks of the year.

so "Black Friday" is what people refer to as the day after Thanksgiving / first day of Christmas season shopping? I thought this thread was going to be about the stock market or something.

My job refers to it as "Green Friday". On the plus side, if I can't get out of my 5-hour shift Friday night, my boss is at least buying pizza for all of us.

Since when has religion become part of Thanksgiving?

We're all going to hell but it doesn't have anything to do with stores being open for Thanksgiving. I'll tell you what though, with all of us going to hell, it's going to be a fun ass place, that's for sure.
