skier well
[ QUOTE ]
A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Tuesday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer." The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: Why not on Tuesday? and the voice from in the well shouts back: Because on Tuesday, its your day in the well. [/ QUOTE ] ask away fish |

If all of the world's poker knowledge were lost tomorrow and you could only send one sentence to your future self to help you relearn the game, what would it be? |
Re: skier well
im bored and qualifications, uh, i play 10/20 i guess. i dunno, i can delete it if you like.
deposited $50 way back when played limit, then eventually got into sngs. One day I went deep in the 3r, and several weeks later had 2 4 figure scores in a week and started grinding the stars turbo sngs and tournaments. Needless to say decided I could go pro after only several hundred sngs. No job summer before college. Sngs weren't going so well in may, but in june I finally hit a several k mtt score and started playing those. 20k week (more or less breakeven rest of summer) gave me enough money for school. At this time my bankroll hovered between 5-15k and i'd always get a score and try to play the $100 mtts and stuff and lose it back. Eventually I started playing cash. First .5/1, then it took me forever to move up to 1/2. Finally in november I had a good month at 1/2 and moved up to 2/4 in December. First night I moved up i had about 14k. at one point i was at 9.5k but ground my way to 12.5k and ended the night there. Peaked around 25k or so in dec, but lost a bunch back and started 2007 with a 16k roll. I did well in january and moved up aggressively starting to play more and more 3/6 and 5/10 in feb. Cue long breakeven stretch of barely winning. Then in april I had a 60k month at 5/10, may I made a bunch in one week and then more live (45k live) thanks to an mtt score. In june I decided I was gonna move up to 10/20 and played a lot of nosebleeds as shots. Some life tilt and running bad. made 40k. July was hell, lost like 40k tons of hands playing bad, 10/20 tilting etc and ive been playing 10/20 since then doing ok i suppose. I have the 5 because skier was taken and it was 2005. |
Re: skier well

Longest Break even streak? Lifetime hands played? Flop/Turn/River AF? And over how many hands. [/ QUOTE ] Over 150k hands for sure. Moving up is so hard sometimes, especially without coaching or anything plus the tilt factor of higher stakes and it can get rough. Plus running bad too obv. I've probably played ~750k hands. As far as stats in general My game is constantly changing, I'll decide I'm gonna do something, run hot and decide that's how I'm gonna play but then I'll run bad rethink it and revise, change it up, I'm sure it's slowly all coming together. I'd say at least 2 on all streets, but I can give you my stats for this db on my laptop which i started in august. in my current db im 3.7/2.4/2.6 over 210k hands |

Cool stories from your current jaunt around Europe? 2007 graph/PT shot too plz [/ QUOTE ] hmm ill try to think of some stories, ive honestly been grinding a fuckload but i guess there was that month in london and barcelona and oktoberfest and etc. ill work on the graphs since i have 2 dbs of which only one is on the computer. but i can tell you the juicy stuff! looks like i lied about 750k hands life time. I'd guess about 850k hands on the year and prolly +375k or something but i could be off. |

Have you had a coach? Why? How did it help you? [/ QUOTE ] i had a couple sessions at 1/2 and it helped me, but mostly just talking to friends on aim has helped and thinking about the game myself and posting on 2+2. It's not to say I don't think coaches are good because I think they accelerate development for most people by a lot, but because im way too [censored] lazy and useless to get something set up ahead of time. |
Re: skier well
do you still play MTTs now? assuming yes how often and is it mostly the fun/challenge/mix things up category or because you think they are +EV and looking for big score?

[/ QUOTE ] the only mtts i play now are the sundays or the wcoop/ftops type things. sometimes i do it for a change of pace, but usually at the thought of a big score. I probably play mtts 1-2 sundays a month and try to coincide it with when the stars mill or the ft tourney is >215. |

on a scale of 1 - 10.
how disgusting of a city is edmonton? what improvements in your game did you make while moving up so aggressively? you say you would get into moods where you would try out one style, run with it for a bit, then change some things up. could you display a transitional phase? (ie i did abc for a while, and then felt doing cdef was better, fill in what abc and cdef would be) |

What is your lifetime WWSF?
How many hands do you think one needs before determining their "true winrate?" You said you had a 150k break even stretch? What limits? |

Re: skier well
gamble4you talked about "the core of poker" in his well post. Can you elaborate on this?
How often do you do odds calculations to work on game theory type things? (things similar to your post on restealing from short stackers) Do you have intentions of moving passed 25/50? Where do you live? How old are you? Are you a student? What's your next 5 years look like? |
Re: skier well
skier - we should totally get a house in whistler for next year, and just get passes for all next winter

[/ QUOTE ] its 46 over the 210k hands in this db. lifetime id suspect its lower. my actual wwsf, i suspect is higher now. True win rate takes a lot, i'd imagine over 250k hands but you get a pretty good idea after like 100k hands or something. the breakeven was at 5/10 and and 10/20. |
Re: skier well
also you guys ask way too much about stats in these [censored] things. they;re not nearly that important and vary greatly depending on how you play.

Re: skier well
How do you react to 3-bets OOP (either EP vs BTN, CO vs BTN or SB v BB) against a nitty (say 18/15 [datamined so you have no actual reads]) regular? Like, what hands will you call/4bet, and what do you think your ratio is for real hands:bluffs?

(ie i did abc for a while, and then felt doing cdef was better, fill in what abc and cdef would be) [/ QUOTE ] meh i think edmonton is prolly pretty clean compared to a lot of cities i mostly just opened up and tried different lines. I used to be really nitty so i slowly loosened up, open raising more buttons maybe went from like 19/16 to like 22/19 to like 28/22 to like 25/20 etc. I tried playing 35/50 at times and all sorts of things. one night i decided i was gonna open minraise every single button folded to me. 6 byins later i decided that wasnt such a good idea. but as far as transitions it was more like well im gonna completely do something (how often i raise otb persay) and completely change that and play like that and id slowly transition "back" into a less extreme version generally. |
