Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
So I was railing the FTOPS event this morning and all of a sudden I can't chat anymore. The only quasi-bad thing I said was calling one of the players a 'lagtard'. This isn't really any worse than calling someone a donkey which I certainly don't think should be ban worthy. I didn't swear or ask for money or spam the chat. I'll wait for their e-mail detailing exactly why my chat was banned but this seems unfair to me and is putting me on major tilt.
Anyone else had experiences like this? |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
you were railing and talking [censored] to people who were actualy playing right? sounds like a legit reason to me.

calling one of the players a 'lagtard'. [/ QUOTE ] I always wondered about the thought process of people who rail these tournaments and feel the need to comment in chat about it. What exactly is the purpose of this? Why do you do this? |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
I just reread an an earlier e-mail I found from my first chat ban (well deserved) and the rep writes/quotes the following:
"We value all players and wish to cultivate an environment in which they can play without being harassed or called names at the tables" Are you kidding me? You can't call people names?! Wow. I can understand swearing being forbidden but this is a little over the top imo. I guess freedom of speech does not exist at Full Tilt. Even the WSOP seems to allow name calling (as long as you don't swear) ie. Phil Helmuth. |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
i've seen so much worse that lagtard in chat. but since it is based on the word retard its probably considered worse than donkey or fish.

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
AKing,
I'm appalled at this shoddy treatment by FT of a valued railbird. It's clear that all railbirds need to unite and form an organization like the PPA to protect their rights. Maybe a good name would be the ORBPA, i.e., the Online Railbird Protective Association. Let the media get pictures of a bunch of you guys picketing their headquarters, and I guarandamntee ya that FT will be singing a different tune and treating you railbirds better! |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
If you were watching the WSOPME live and were yelling names to people playing, would you have gotten kicked out of the Rio for being a distraction?
|
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
So you have had more than 1 chat ban? Ever thought you should just STFU?
All railbirds should be banned. |

[/ QUOTE ] no kidding. it's almost like when he called someone a lagtard in the chat, he thought that someone, somewhere in the universe was actually going to read that and care. OP, coming from someone who actually plays in poker tournaments: don't ever chat again. nobody cares. |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
Whoa Whoa Whoa I play cash games and tourneys, I took some time to rail the FTOPS and I made what I thought was a non-injurious comment but like I said I guess freedom of expression is not tolerated. When someone wants to discuss a chop, support is nowhere to be found but somehow they find it important to have eyes and ears that closely monitor what you're saying.

pardon me, i should have said, "speaking on behalf of people who play in poker tournaments"

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
I had a month ban for calling cards while railing a friend at the final table of a 50k gtd. It was funny I guess, in the email it said:
"Reason for ban: AJ AJ AAJAAJ AJA J JA" |

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
I got a warning the other day for saying "cocky" in the chat at poker stars? One donk was berating another donk after be HE won the hand. The loser wouldn't rebuy but they kept arguing back and forth. I told the loser of the hand "yea I would rebuy when people like him get cocky after winning a hand they hand the money right back to you usually" in hopes that that he would rebuy so I could stack him and I guess someone turned me in for it. I sent stars an email back telling them I thought this was ludicrous and ridiculous that they would waste their time and mine harboring this kinda childish bull [censored] and that poker is a game played amongst adults and some times adults use adult language.
With that being said it is pretty lame when you are railing a tourney you aren't even in and disruping the game. If I was hosting a game and someone who wan't playing was railing and sating stuff to the player I would ask them stop or leave so I kinda agree with fulltilt here. |

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
" poker is a game played amongst adults and some times adults use adult language."
I really think this is just an excuse that supposed adults make to act incredibly immature. I wouldn't mind if anything even resembling innappropriate language were taken away. It is supposed to be a friendly game afterall so all this stuff of "you suck" etc only serves to potentially irritate the table. I want the game to be welcoming and playable to 60 year old grandmothers with nothing better to do but the atmosphere of mostly youngish males calling each other d-bag's is simply too intimidating for them imo. I don't think my vision of senior citizens and more women playing is incredibly unrealistic when you consider how many play games like bridge or cribbage or hearts, etc. But with the culture as it is now I think those expecting a more polite and friendly atmosphere would be more likely to be run-off by the occasional foul language. just my opinion. I'm kind of aware that it isn't a particularly popular one. |

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
Couldn't agree more MicroBob. Trouble is poker is a very macho type game and does bring out the worst in many people. If you are a pro/semi pro or indeed just don't like losing money to donks then in the immediate aftermath of a bad beat many people are prone to say daft things.
Really objectionable chat should be reported and perhaps we would have less of it. Also with regards to the OP he was railbirding as well with makes it all the worse IMHO. I can sometimes feel peoples pain in the heat of battle but railbirds don't deserve any sympathy. |

[/ QUOTE ] seriously. if it's regular 'cheering for your friends' type chat or even 'hey, haven't seen you for awhile' or whatever then that's fine. Insulting other players at the table though is just bad form. Somebody earlier brought up the idea of doing it live at the WSOP or something but it also applies to cash-games. If somebody was rail-birding a live game and saying "you played that like a fish. Wow, you suck" I don't think he would be allowed to stay there for very long. If you were rail-birding a live tourney or something and said, "Hey, looks like you're doing well. Good luck" I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. Polite and normal chat is one thing. Harassing or berating players at the table is different. |

Maybe don't talk trash if you're not involved in the game? Just a thought.

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
I hate to say it but they had a pretty good reason to ban your chat here. Keep it 100% clean and you have nothing to worry about, and yes lagtard is offensive.

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
As a woman player who endured years of trash talk at B&M poker rooms before the advent of the internet I am not hardly intimidated by verbal abuse online. On the contrary, I use it as one way of getting a read on otherwise anonymous
avatars and if it gets too obnoxious, there's always the Mute Chat option. That said, I do question the mind-set or emotional age level of people who engage in abusive or sexist chat under the protective cover of anonymity when the same activity at a live poker room would easily be viewed as "fighting words" resulting in being invited "outside" by some large-bodied gentleman at the table. Thankfully, many of the B&M rooms have now instituted "zero tolerance" policies toward abuse of players or dealers resulting in a much less threatening environment for women and new players with a resultant increase in the numbers of both groups which adds greatly to the generally acknowledged "fishiness" of casino poker compared to the online game. What effect such a policy would have on the online game is argueable but at the least it might result in a generally more pleasant playing experience for all. |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
I don't think the "there's always the mute button" argument should be used. Many players like a bit of banter whilst playing - why should they have to switch off chat or mute a player because he is being obnoxious.
If you mute a player you just see replies and then can't really join in a conversation. Zero tolerence is needed against these brain dead idiots. They should have their chat banned for a month and then permanently if they repeat. |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
I'm still trying to decide what's more pathetic - berating players from the rail, or coming on here to complain about losing chat privileges for doing so.

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?

Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
I would love for FTP to implement the "you must have a buyin in your account to chat" rule that Stars has.
Sure, it means I can't wish Barry G. good luck in the Sunday High Stakes Showdown. But it also means that morons that aren't playing (or at least can't afford to play) aren't criticizing play / spamming the chat window. I was watching Gus Hansen yesterday night for a bit playing PL Omaha. He was sitting with 350K. He just bet pot, bringing the pot up to ~100k, and his opponent hit the time-bank, thinking of calling an extra ~40k. The chat window went CRAZY with people speculating what each of them had. In the middle of the hand. I realize that it happens all the time, and players like Gus / PA / etc don't even read the chat. But 'cmon. Just my $0.02 OT |

A higher amount of the population is retiring, so they have a new chance to become a big part of online poker. The responsibility is on the current players to make the game inviting and encourage increasing or at least maintaining the pool. In Barry Greenstein's book he notes how he was surprised that Doyle and Chip weren't as intimidating as he thought they'd be, that they were nice and tried to get along as well as possible. Then he realized, a good player wants to keep you there, find out what your weaknesses are, and continually exploit them. They don't try and scare you off, and they definitely don't try and give you tips to improve. The reverse happens all the time online, from players who imply they're savvy poker players by calling their opponents out. Though by definition a savvy poker player makes as much money as possible, and I can't see how 'calling someone out' improves the bottom line. Rather than just saying 'nh' when someone makes a bad play, and in your head being like OMG that's so exploitable, noted. Quoting Sharkscope stats, drawing people's attention to their weaknesses "to make them feel bad" (or does it make them want to improve?) is not a long-term approach. Celebrate the lag-tards, and the bad-beaters or all we'll have left is the out-players. |
Re: Anyone Had Their Chat Banned On Full Tilt For No Good Reason?
First started playing on Stars in early 2003. Had no idea what I was doing nor could I even remember whether a full-house beat a flush or vice-versa.
Some guy in chat berated me for playing a 'crap' hand all-in pre-flop early in a SNG and sucking out on him. I mostly shook it off in chat. But he rattled me somewhat and left me kind of embarassed. Geez, all these other players are looking at this guy picking apart my bad play so now they all know about it too. I also had no idea that A8o was such a crap hand to get all-in pre-flop early in a SNG and I would have continued thinking that it was a good play if he hadn't told me otherwise. So he succeeded in both intimidating me which could have scared me away as a player AND informing me that my play was bad. Basically, some players are so bad that they don't fully seem to understand that you want such players at your table I'm really amazed at those who 'kind of' get it in that they know they are profitable..but still want to berate the players anyway so they say, "please don't leave" "keep playing that way, you'll be broke soon enough" and stuff like that. Contrary to what you might think, some of these bad players do actually see the chat about them and it really can serve to scare them away completely and reinforce an idea that they are playing higher than they should and that they are really out of their league trying to play with the big-boys. So there's the general put-downs of bad play that the table-coaches do which I disagree with...and also the cussing and foul-language which can serve to drive-away 60-year-old ladies who do have a credit-card and do want to give it a try. |

I thought I was going to crush all levels of these games because of this high-tech knowledge! (I played some home games before and I remembered all that arguments if quads are more than flush or straight flush - no one knew for sure) //edit: as of that freeroll - I was dealt Ax (within first 5 hands) and I immediately knew I'm gonna raise that hand. What a surprise - when it was my turn there was only "FOLD" and "CALL" buttons and the table beeped to force me to act. What the hell why can I not raise with that magic hand? What a crappy software. Guess what I did. (small help: it was a NO LIMIT freeroll) |

When I started playing, in the first or second day I somehow already immediately invented the limp with pair wait for set strategy. Maybe it was my math and cs nature. I even 3 tabled with that!! Of course, I was not able to read the board so I wasn't able to spot a straight or flush and often lost all-in with unimproved set. But I managed to keep break even at the microlimits with that strategy until i learned the game. |
