Faceplanted Last Night and Broke Tooth

Standard Saturday night stuff... I got really drunk and we couldn't get a cab after the bars closed so we jogged home. I barely remember the details, but somewhere along the way I tripped and face-planted on the curb. Seconds later I'm spitting out blood and shattered pieces of a tooth. Here is what it looks like now:

Luckily I have had no pain today. As you can maybe see, there is a very small amount of my tooth left. Most of the visible portion is gone.

I have a "Meet the Firm" dinner I need to go to Tuesday night which should hopefully lead to a job interview. I also have a career fair on Wednesday.

Does anyone have experience with fixing a broken tooth? It seems there a quite a few options from googling it and they depend on the situation of course.

How much will this cost to get fixed? Will I be able to get it fixed by Tuesday? I didn't really want to call my dentist at home tonight and figured I will wait until the morning, so I'm soliciting the second best medical advice (OOT).

My parent's should help me out with most of it, but I haven't had dental insurance since July. I am off my parent's insurance and only picked up a cheap health insurance plan.

damn that sucks, I was with a mate when he knocked out 4 teeth one night, having all my teeth is one of the few things I hold on to as I sign I haven't slipped to far into the abys just yet.

if you don't look like this after your dentist is finished then you should fire him and hire a different dentist as yours is clearly doing an inadequate job

You need something by Tuesday? Its been a while, but I think you are almost out of luck.
Ten years ago I got a tooth knocked out in a baskeball game. I went with an implant. Maybe other people have had better experiences with it, but mine sucked.
If I were you, I'd call a dentist Monday, and beg for an appointment for a rush-job bridge.

My entire family has gone to the same dentist for about 8 years. I'm sure he'll do whatever he can to help.

I fell and cracked one of my front teeth inside the gum when I was 9. Had a root canal, and kept that tooth until about a year ago, when it cracked and fell out during thanksgiving dinner.

Don't lose teeth during the holidays! My dentist didn't open until the following Tuesday, but I got in that day. I was lucky though... I had the piece that cracked out, they glued it in place and it held for a week until I could have a serious fake put in.

I had a procedure done... they called it a post. They put a tiny titanium bar inside my gum, and then attached the fake to it. It turned out well, people can't tell if I don't tell them. It's my right front tooth. This is a small picture, but I couldn't find a better one.

I broke off about 1/4 of one of my front teeth playing hockey. The rest of the tooth was fine so they put a veneer on it and it looks original. Your issue will depend on whether the remaining part of the tooth is healthy or has to go. If it has to go, it will take a while; if they can do a veneer, that takes a few days but they put something temporary on that looks ok while you wait.

Judging by the picture, though, I think you are f'ed.

This is what I fear... I'll know later today. I wouldn't be worried if I had some amount of tooth left.

At least I get a couple more days to study for the test I had scheduled today!

OP,

Check your health insurance benefits. A lot of basic health insurance plans include "dental accident" coverage.

Post-Dentist Update!

Drove home for an afternoon at the dentist and I'm back to new!

but not quite...

This is somewhat temporary. The dentist will do the same procedure as kitty kat has in a couple months. Root canal -> titanium post -> cap it with a more permanent fake. Dentist said my nerves were basically dangling... when he initially numbed it I don't know if I've felt a worst sting in my life.

El D,

I checked on my health insurance plan and it specifically excludes accidental dental work... so much for not paying the extra $20-$25 a month for dental.

Went to my parent's house and my Mom took me to buy new stuff which I assume was for good behavior at the dentist (or maybe because she hasn't seen the bill yet).

Your mom buys you stuff when you behave at the dentist? Are you a 7 year old getting drunk?
