don't know much about cars but i'm gonna buy one.
in order of importance <$25k actual car, not suv/truck can handle in snow (fwd/awd) low milage, fairly new (1-2 years old) looks cool i'm pretty open to suggestion |
Re: beat: car shopping
for what ur looking for, i say ford focus
|
Re: beat: car shopping
Audi A4. You can def get a model 3 years old for low 20s. Very good car and AWD. Chicks dig Audis too.
EDIT: more info... http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingR...QuizConditions= P.S. car dealers buy under 'good condition' no matter what condition the car is. If you want a deal on the car, you will have to pay about 1k above trade-in or 5%, whichever is more. http://www.pricequotes.com/images/models/04-s4-hero.jpg |
Re: beat: car shopping
infinity G35 coupe 2005-2006
|
Re: beat: car shopping
if you need something that can handle snow, subaru.

for what ur looking for, i say ford focus [/ QUOTE ] Joke? I'd recomend getting a 2006 or 2005 Audi A4. Nice car, drives well, and can handle the snow. I just checked Blue Book, a 2006 with 30k miles is just under $25k, with the 2.0Turbo engine. |
Re: beat: car shopping
i drive an accord
its a pretty sweet car if you want to drive like a normal person and not race people |
Re: beat: car shopping
Lincoln LS
Very nice luxery cheap, Fast, Powerful. I take it through the snow, and it just rides smoooth. |
Re: beat: car shopping
Audis are very expensive to fix, and I've heard they aren't as reliable as some of their German counterparts.
I'd suggest something like a BMW 330xi, or even a Subaru WRX or Legacy. All three are AWD. |

It was 1 off from being a lemon. True statement about the Suburus. Legacy has a nicer ride than it's WRX brother. |
Re: beat: car shopping
2004-2005 Acura TL ftw
|
Re: beat: car shopping
To win life you do this: Buy a 90-94 Eagle Talon / Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo AWD 5 speed like so:
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/9248/asdf123fx9.jpg Buy it for like 3k. Spend like 7k and every part will have 0 miles on the rebuild so it will be like having a new car. Only difference is you will pwn anything in sight and run around 12.0 1/4 mile. |
Re: beat: car shopping
less than 25k i am skeptical you can get any of these things being mentioned
|
Re: beat: car shopping
I have an 05 STi and its an all around awesome ride.
Great in snow(after swapping stock tires)....fast, lots of fun, plus u can rally it(although Im prob the only one who can) If not, second the a4 |

The G35 has a 52:48 weight balance (50:50 is ideal in the snow) and has one of the best traction control systems in the industry. In general, as long as you have good snow tires and your car has good weight balance, the difference between AWD/FWD/RWD is marginal so you shouldn't discount RWD cars entirely. |

He ended up having to call a truck for help because he was blocking an intersection of traffic. I personally like the G35 better but due to a real life experience in the snow, I know better than to comment that they are good in snow. Ignorant comments? Real life testing > what you've been fed by corporations |

Re: beat: car shopping
Folks, everyone here should know a G35 isn't ideal in snow, regardless of it's weight ratio. The man wants an AWD car, stop recommending non-AWD cars...
I really think a WRX or Subaru branded car is where you want to head. I didn't mean to come off as saying BMW's are cheap to fix, it's just another expensive option to the A4. Personally, I wouldn't mess around with either of those German automobiles, even though they are great cars. Just too damn expensive to maintain. You could get a loaded '04 or '05, and probably '06 WRX for less than 25k, with low miles too. The new Legacy is one of my favorite cars. It's beautiful, powerfule, reliable, and practical. So are the WRX's. I can't think of a reason not to look into a WRX. 1. Turbocharged 2. 4 doors 3. Reliable 4. High resale 5. Awd 6. Aesthetically pleasing 7. Good consumer reports No brainer imo. |
Re: beat: car shopping
You'd think the biggest NL winner on FTP this year would be able to afford something a little more balla than a 25k car!

Re: beat: car shopping
audi or subaru for sure

The G35 has summer performance tires on it as stock, and those by nature are awful in the snow. I have a rear wheel drive car (BMW) and it handles fine in the snow because I got snow tires for the winter. |
Re: beat: car shopping
where do you live? that will help handle the importance of an awd car and rule out rwd cars, if need be.

[/ QUOTE ] apparently he is smarter than a lot of people who think they need to spend 40 or 60k on a car just because they make a lot of money. i second the subaru recommendation, those are good cars. it also depends on how much snow you are talking about. if you live in central MA or something that's a bit different than living in buffalo or MN. i got through a bunch of berkshire winters in a series of crappy 2WD compacts with all-season tires. hondas and acuras are pretty good too but i have much less experience with them. |

kratzer,
Consider any Japanese car that is FWD (Honda/Toyota) and AWD cars (Audi, Subaru). Avoid RWD cars. When buying consider maintenance costs. |

Re: beat: car shopping
SUBARU WRX FTW, I have an 05 and love it. Turbo charged, awd, handles like a dream, and very stylish... Easily under $25k, you can get a new one loaded for about $28k
