Bizzare Foods with Andrew Zimmerman

Anyone else find this TV program utterly disgusting yet funny at the same time?

For those who have never seen it, its about this Bald Porky White Chef guy named Andrew who goes to like foreign/2nd world countries and eats their cusine...

Example : In alaska he ate fermented raw seal flipper ( Seal flipper which is raw and burried in ground for many months to let rot)

I mean I try not to throw up when I watch it but it's so funny how he gives his culinary views on the horrid foods he eats....

Anyone else watch this show? It's on the Travel Channel

I saw a few commercials for it the other day. I don't understand the appeal of this show, though. It's like Fear Factor without the competition.

He exemplifies the ugly american. Goes to other countries and talks down to them about their cuisine and acts like a bitch the whole time "this is too spicy that is too raw this is too strong ewww that smells yuck yuck" i'd like to slap that bitch across the face

solids,

the way the show goes though, he doesn't frame it like "omg, look at this grosssss food im going to eat" and he never shows any puking/gross face reactions, so thats not what its all about.

its actually a pretty interesting show. in reality, not all the food he eats are THAT gross and its more of a travel/food show.

Yea amazingly enough he actually enjoys a LOT of the foods he tries and their textures (lol) like the fried chicken head or Goat Balls and rice... I have never seen him demean any of the natives.

Agreed, I think I only saw the alaska one but he actually made it seem bizarrely tasty.

The way you describe it sounds a lot different then their commercials. They're all like, 'Watch this dude eat some worms, donkey dicks, and other gross [censored]. Lolz.'

But maybe I'll catch the next episode afterall. I like the travel channel, and I typically have a 'when in rome' type of attitude when it comes to food, so this show sounds interesting.

I've seen a couple episodes, and I have yet to see him react worse than when he went to eat stinky tofu in I think it was Taipei.

Yeah, it's not at all "Fear Factor"-ish.

Most of the time he says that things are really good, and most of the time I think he's being honest. There are some times when either I'm picking up on a little dishonesty or something just seems so weird/gross to me that I can't believe he actually likes it. Then there are a couple times when even he, this guy that eats bird embryos feathers and all, runs into something so bad he can't eat it. Those are pretty funny.

Overall an ok show. On Survivor: China last week, they had balut for sure and I think some other things I've seen him eat.

Totally agree.

In fact, I feel like he keeps himself in check to a fault.

Here's me: "No I'm not gonna eat that egg--IT'S GOT A PARTIALLY-FORMED EMBRYONIC CHICKEN INSIDE OF IT WITH FEATHERS AND A BRAIN!! YOU PEOPLE ARE MONSTERS!!"

That's why I don't have a show like that.

This job definitely requires an very open mind and an open stomach. Based on some of the clips though, I think he does a pretty good job at judging the food.

Though I wish the guy was a bit better looking and less bald and tubby so that he can represent Americans better. as a I know, coming from an asian family, we are quite judgmental of race and thus reinforcing unfavorable stereotypes (loud, fat, belligerent americans!) certainly doesn't help break them.

Usually about once an episode there is something that he doesnt like or doesnt eat. He is very nice to the locals and doesnt like bad mouth the food.
Most of the stuff he eats is like stuff we don't eat in America but are local delicacies or the local dish. He will eat alot of organs and innards from pigs, cows and chickens.
Its alot about the travel aspect

He seems legit interested in the food, and I almost get the feeling he would be eating it whether or not there was a camera following him. Love the guy, love the show.

Sounds like Anthony Bourdain's show, which is pretty good, imo.

They topped everything I've seen on that show last week. It was an asian country, vietnam maybe and his guide said he had to try this special coffee.

The coffee is made from undigested coffee beans found in the excrement of civets, a raccoon like mammal. They dry out the excrement with the coffee beans, grind it up and then brew it.

Andrew liked it, said it had an earthy flavor.

WTF
