BRAG: Lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks

October 1, I buy in to the Matol Diet. I am a 6 foot male with more than average muscle mass, 230 pounds, and felt fat even though nobody around me really noticed. I started shopping for jeans in Sept for the school year and was having a lot of trouble fitting in to a pair without looking like they were spandex. So I had to go up a size and didn't feel good.

Anyway, Nov 4th, and I just weighed in at 199.4 pounds.

I'm sure many of you are going to think this is unhealthy, its all water weight, or that I lost a ton of muscle mass too.

The answer is none of the above actually. The way it works is this. your body gets energy from 3 main sources: carbs, proteins, fats.

Your body burns carbs/sugars as its primary source of energy, and once the carb/sugar "bank" is depleted it simultaneously use your stored energy (your fat) and your protein (muscles mostly) for energy.

The idea is to deplete your carb/sugar "Bank" completely so that your body is forced to use its stored fat and muscle. But you don't want to lose your muscle right? OFC not, so the protein food is high in protein which helps prevent this by providing the body with protein. So the diet forces my body to enter
"Ketosis" which means my body uses strictly its stored fat as energy.

Anyway, 30 pounds in 5 weeks, and I can see the results in inches and body size. Booyeashacka.

BRAG: 30 pounds gone in 5 weeks
BRAG: I sat down and did NO exercise during this time period.
BEAT: No fast food for me (I was a fast food junkie before this)
VARIANCE: Still 20 more pounds to go.

Nice brag. Unfortunately, if you did zero exercise, you still probably lost some muscle, albeit less than you would have with a lower protein diet.

This sounds like the Atkins diet. I did an extreme version of this in high school and my stomach is still messed up from it 6 years later. That's the thing that I def know it caused, but for all I know my kidney and liver are totally [censored] up from overworking them that hard.

I really really don't suggest using this as a way of losing weight. You're basically just forcing your body to work really hard to get [censored] from your mouth to your ass and starving it at the same time. Go for a [censored] run every day if you wanna lose weight.

Heya, Matol Diet is amazing simple and convenient.

Before I started the diet I usually didn't have time in the morning to make a decent breakfast, and then in between classes I usually have to opt for fast food, and for supper I like to relax with a piece of pizza and beer or something because I was energy drained. Kind of a vicious cycle.

This diet is simple. You buy the food, which is quite expensive. Each packet consists of 20g of protein and little to almost no carbs, with your 9 essential amino acids.

In phase 1 (there are 4 phases) you set a weight loss goal and you do phase 1 for 80% of that loss goal.

Breakfast - 1 Protein packet + tea/coffee

Lunch - 1 protein packet + 2 cups of select veggies (brocoli, string beans, NO carrots or corn etc too high in natural sugars)

Supper - 7oz chicken/turkey OR 5oz lean meat (steak, beef, pork etc) + 2 cups of veggies + unlimited salad

Night time snack - 1 more packet

Plus each day you need to take your Matol drink twice daily (which tases aweful but they tell me its good for me), calcium drink twice daily, and your pills: Essential Fatty Acids, and Vitamens.

The protein packs are freaking good. I thought it would be like those shakes. But nah they have chili, cake, puddings, oatmeal, pancakes, bars, shakes, etc, and they are all the same nutritionally (minor diffs) and take less than a couple of minutes to make.

You can buy it from distributors, this diet cant be foudn in stores etc, PM me if you want info on who to contact, it gets shipped right to your house. (BTW it is not me that you contact so I am not advertising this lol).

Yeah keto works but you will lose muscle on it no matter how much protein you eat.

Agreed. I probably did lose muscle, but nothing a month or 2 of the gym won't restore when I lose 20 more pounds.

I don't really know exactly what atkins diet consists of (never really cared to look in to it), can you expand on what they tell you to eat? Are there any supplements? Whats the meal plan like? Thx.

Yep and thats why I wasn't going to go on it at first. I decided that it's a 1 time expense to turn myself into what I wanted to be physically. I guess I could have ate better and ran every day for 6 months for the same results but I'm lazy.

I didn't do atkins exactly. It's just the same really really unhealthy basic plan of lots of protien to fill yourself up and keep muscle mass but no carbs.

I weighed like 120 lbs at the start of wrestling and here's what I ate every day:

Breakfast: 2 pieces of bacon, 3 eggs, a grapefruit and a bunch of celery sticks.
Lunch: A steak. A grapefruit and a bunch of celery sticks. Sometimes some broccoli as well.
Dinner: A steak. A grapefruit and a bunch of celery sticks and something extra that I'd choose with no carbs in it.. usually i just put the steak in some nasty broth and ate that cause I got weird cravings while on the diet.

I'd bring maybe another quarter pound of steak with me to school and eat it between classes.

The weekend after wrestling ended, I gained 15 lbs eating instant oatmeal til I was sick repeatedly. I still get random cravings for things with lots of carbs like bread with honey spread on it.

Again, the reason that this is incredibly unhealthy for you is because it [censored] up your liver and kidneys. You're feeding your body a ton of [censored] that it doesn't want and your kidneys and liver are working really hard to filter all that [censored] out. I know that what you're doing isn't as extreme as what I did, but it's still a really bad idea.

Even if 30 pounds of those 230 are muscle you are still overweight for your height.

In fact the human body is evolutionarily designed to eat a high protein/fat diet. (esp if you're of northern European descent). Studies have shown that a high protein diet does not harm the kidneys unless you have a pre-existing condition. If anything messed you up it was eating 15lbs*3000kcal = 45,000 calories (or 346 packets) of instant oatmeal in one weekend.

I would not recommend the Atkins diet itself (esp with all their gimmick products), but if you food-select wisely it can be healthier than those stupid low/no fat diets.

In the end though, it's all about calories in vs calories out, despite what anyone will tell you. No/low carb just makes it easier to control appetite.

Oh...and keep up the good work OP.

The fatal flaw of BMI is that it assumes everyone has the muscle mass of a preteen girl.

Bodyfat% is a better indicator of obesity.

Re: BRAG: Lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks

I have never been a fan of BMI measures simply because it doesn't factor in a lot of very important variables. BMI is simply saying if you are 6 feet you should weigh x. If you weigh over y you are obese.

Athletes have more than the average amount of muscle mass and therefore BMI calculates them as "at risk" even though they are in top physical shape.

http://suewidemark.netfirms.com/bmi.htm - More Info

I'm not saying I wasn't overweight (In fact I am saying the opposite and I still have more to go). But there is def a big diff between obesity and over weight. FWIW I would not be scared/embarrased to tell people on an internet forum I was obese, seriously.
