Plea for help
While I don’t post here very often, but have been here a long time, I am asking for some help. My son Justin who turned sixteen yesterday has been in the ICU at Boston General in the Pediatrics ICU since Sunday. I have been there since Sunday and am heading back tomorrow. I have setup a web page at Care Pages for him it is called JustinZiencina. His mother (my ex-wife) is having a hard time dealing right now and would like her to see how many people are hoping and praying for him right now, so if you could go to this website and leave a message it would be great.
Also if anybody is in Boston (Beacon Hill area) the next week and bored PM me as I do nothing for most of the day, and kill to get out of the hospital for a drink. |

He's not asking for money, just a little support. Jesus Christ, go back to BBV4L if you want to be an ass. |
Re: Plea for help
actually I think the OP would do much better in BBV4L than here. much more supportive community. good luck OP.

Re: Plea for help
I cant find how to get into that page without registering. I'll look back here tomorrow when I'm sober and I'm not posting idiotic and selfish comments like I did earlier. Once again, sorry man I didn't mean it and I actually didnt even read your OP at first since I thought it was just some scam to collect money from people with good hearts.
It's friday and I came back from bar a couple of hours ago so that explains a little although it's not an explanation. Goddamn im stupid. Take care man and I hope your son gets better, I have similar issues in my family and I know how it is. |
Re: Plea for help
Yes you do, but the site doesn't verify. But please this is not a joke and we don't need a load of this

Re: Plea for help
OP,
I regged and will leave a note. I don't know how stuff like this could help but if it does then great. Best of Luck. From the site once you register (OP can't mind me posting since he asked us to go there anyway): "As some of you might or might not know Justin is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Mass General. On Saturday around 11:30 AM Justin was skateboarding, and performing some maneuver the skateboard projected upward and struck him in the neck. He temporarily was unable to breath but was able to regain it in 15-20 seconds. His friend’s mother was concerned over his complaining of pain and the hoarseness of his speech and brought him to the Emergency Room at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. A CT scan was performed at Baystate and it was determined he had severed his right vocal cord. There are no specialists in our area to deal with this type of injury so the decision was made to send him to Mass General. A team was supposed to fly down to pick him up, but due to the winds on Saturday night the helicopters were grounded, so a team had to drive from Boston to transport him there. Justin did not arrive at Mass General till approximately 2:00 AM on Sunday; he was up most of the night and morning being evaluated and was admitted to the PICU. Surgery was scheduled for 1:15 PM on Sunday and should have lasted for about 45 minutes. They originally attempted to repair the vocal cord using an endoscope procedure but the doctor was unable to repair the cord this way due to the extent of the damage, a more invasive procedure was necessary. Surgery took over 5 hours. A tracheotomy was necessary to allow him to breathe, so that he would not disturb the surgical site. He was brought back to the PICU at around 7:15 PM and we were able to see him around 8:15. He was left under anesthesia and on a respirator for the next 24 hours. At this point they brought him out and he was able to begin breathing on his own. A second surgery was scheduled for Thursday to remove the tracheotomy and to ensure the vocal cord repair was a success. Over the next few days Justin continued having a cough allowing air to get in to the tissue in his neck and chest and as well as the chest cavity. He was given a larger trach, put back on sedatives, and back on a respirator. Due to these complications surgery was put off till Monday. At this point he is on 3 mg of Morphine per hour and 3mg of Versed per hour so he is pretty much under until they perform the surgery on Monday. If all goes well with the surgery they will remove the trach and he should be released from the PICU on Wednesday or Thursday." |

Just stay positive. From the description, it sounds like, although there have been some complications, everything will turn out ok. Good luck man. |

Re: Plea for help
After reading what tuq posted I can't imagine what the kid is going through right now. It has to be horrible to wake up coughing and then be put back under for your own good (sorry jeffro, just calling it as I see it). I feel bad for not having the courage to say it the first time, but I will be praying for him.

Re: Plea for help
OP, I dont know if this helps anything but I can share some similar experiences me and my family has had in the past.
When I was 7 years old I fell from a swing and my arm bone snapped in half. Nothing weird in that but after that I have had a broken bone about once a year and I don't do anything extreme that leads into many bone fractures easily. Now I'm 20, turning 21 soon, and I've had my arm fractured four times, my toes a couple of times just for running, my leg very badly from an area of 32 centimeters which lead me to ER for one week and was unable to move for month and still have complications for it, fingers and my ankle once and smaller fractures in different parts of my body. I also had my neck damaged in a basketball game when I was a kid and was in a great danger to get paralyzed but thankfully it was cured with just a neck support. So it is clear that I have some decease but it was never really diagnosed well when I was a child and most of these fractured bones occurred. Lately I demanded answers for these fractures that come to me way too easily and I got a diagnosis of ostheoporosis which is very rare with men of my age. I have a medification which slows down this disease but I have to watch out my movements constantly and I had to quit snowboarding since its a no no to me. Doctors have also warned me of higher than normal risk of paralyzing since normal everyday things like running could injure my back badly. My leg injury also lead into some complications like my left leg being shorter than my right and it developed a bad scholiosis to my back which means that my spital looks like S letter. There are lot of deceases in my family too. My mother got diagnosed of MS syndrome about two years ago and theres not much to do to help her but only slow down the speed of her disease. My grandparents from both side of my family and my dad has bad hearts and unluckily I have some issues with my heart too and both my brothers too. There has been a huge stretch of bad luck in my family. I'm not the only one of us who got injuries for my whole childhood. My other brother had his appendix burst and it was decayed very badly and like that wasnt enough he had a hospital bacteria and was in very bad condition for a long time and the situation was very serious. A little later my other brother fall down with his bicycle and was very lucky to survive. He needed lots of surgical operations and his teeth are artificial now but the most important thing is that after all he survived. Our house of that time had a water damage and it developed a bad type of fungus which made us sick. It was "aspergillus fumigatus". All of us were very weak and sick most of the time over the years we lived in that house and that lead us into trouble with school officials and eventually we had trouble with child support etc since we were not able to go to school and no one believed that it was the fungus that made us tired and sick. Even though we havent lived in that house for over 7 years it still affects our lives. My hands shake 24/7, my mother has been very weak for all these years after that, my brother has had a migraine ever since etc. I'm not saying this to express how unlucky my family has been, I just wanted to share this with you so you know that there are others who know how you must feel now and what situation you and your son and your ex-wife are right now. I hope everything goes well and your son regains his ability to live normally and all these complications and backsteps disappear. |
Re: Plea for help
Yes and has been pretty tough to watch, he had more coughing overnight so they have also given him Norcuron a muscle relaxent, so he will stay completely down, almost easier not to watch him suffer. They plan on keeping him in this state till the surgery on Monday.

Re: Plea for help
I posted a message last night, but I must say that I am disappointed with the OOT turnout. Let Jeffro's ex-wife and son feel the power of OOT!

I don't know how stuff like this could help but if it does then great. [/ QUOTE ] It is not usual for me to discuss my personal life especially with people I don’t know. But after spending hour after hour just sitting and waiting in hospital room it does feel better to share some of the pain of all of this, and know others care outside these hospitals walls, even though they don’t know my son or family. My ex finally left the hospital yesterday afternoon after not stepping out of the hospital for about 6 and a ½ days, and I think having the care page there and people’s kind words helped a lot. |
