I just saw a trailer for this movie on TV, and im soooooo psyched. (you can view it here )

Its based on a book written by Richard Matheson back in the 1950s. Basically its about the last guy on earth as everyone else has turned into vampires. The 3 kind of sci fi scenarios I love the most, are last person alive, zombie, and vampire. So anything that combines 2 of the 3 is something I get really excited for.

I've always recommended the book to anyone who likes vampire books, as its well written and in a different style than most of your vampire stuff.

Has anyone else read the book and is looking forward to thsi movie?

I have read the book. I have never seen the other movie versions.

I'm looking forward to watching it but my expectations arent too high.

This project has been around so damn long its crazy. Heston was in the first version I believe which wasn't all that.

I though Will smith version would be lame but based on the trailers it does look pretty sweet. Should kill at the BO

I guess so, but I think the trailer has a totally different feel for some reason. I think it looks cool, but most of my friends are hating on it.

I have (Im a huge Heston fan), and this adaptation looks to be much truer to the book.

I really like these kinds of movies too, the mass destruction-everyone's dead-last man alive kind of themes, but since 28 Days Later did it so well, there hasn't been one as good as it.

Well, Jesus Christ(check out that subtle spoiler! I'm so goddamn clever) I hope it's truer to the book, but things like the main character driving a red Mustang and the imdb credit mentioning Omega Man makes me think otherwise.


OTOH, that they used the real title makes me think they'll keep the novella ending, and Will Smith's gravelly voice seems to be a lot closer to Matheson's "Troubled loner badass" than Heston's "Armed Bon Vivant".

Either way, it's my most anticipated movie of the year.

I got soooo psyched on this trailer and will most definitely see it, but I am far from optimistic seeing what Akiva Goldsman and Smith did with Asimov.

I, Robot wasn't based on an Asimov story, it was a independent script and the studio had the rights to the I, Robot name so they just combined the two.

And you know, it wasn't that bad.

I have been so pumped about this movie for about a month, haven't read the book--maybe I should wait till after the movie so I am not disappointed in the whole move experience. I am completely in love and totally fascinated w/ apocalyptic stories (read McCarthy's The Road earlier this year and loved the story) so this movie gets my juices going.

funny cuz I think the last 2 are by far the worst sci fi scenarios and it isnt even close.... I've never gotten the appeal of these, I've seen maybe 1 good vampire movie and 0 good zombie movies. They are just repetitive and uninteresting.

This movie looks ok, I'll watch it if the RT reviews are somewhat decent. Last person on earth type deals can be fun

A movie about werewolves vs vampires would be sick. Since they both thrive at night, they would have to compete for their victims. Chuck Norris easily makes a cameo.

I really like this book. Will Smith is definitely not Robert Neville.
I don't expect much, but I liked Francis Lawrence's work in Constantine, so I might check it out on DVD eventually.
But really, I'll need to reprogram myself first or something, I don't want to taint my memories of the book.

and frequently bad. 28 Days Later (good) would probably qualify as SciFi/Horror, and prolly the Resident Evil franchise (bad). Though there isn't much science and calling it horror is kinda loose as well.

I am very hopeful that I Am Legend is good.
