One of my professors used to joke that when the US government runs up a big debt the dollar seems to lose value so that we pay the debt off in weaker money but then when we have a decent budget or surplus like in Clinton years the dollar is stronger.
DISCLAIMER: Not sure if this is true or not, too lazy to research it. Would be nice to know dollar strength to debt held ratio over the years. |
