What are the top pros worth?
I know this is probably going to end up being a bunch of rank speculation, but what do you guys think some of the top pros are worth?
On HSP the other night, they played a preview of Doyle talking about next week's episode where the buyin is a $500k minimum. He said that everybody in that game (presumably including himself) was playing too high except for that billionaire Guy Liberte, and that got me to thinking about how much Doyle, Ivey, Reese, and some of those other pros are worth. |
Re: What are the top pros worth?
I cant imagine 500k being too high for Doyle or Barry. They both have to be worth over 10 mil.

Re: What are the top pros worth?
answer-- often negative, rarely more than $3mill. a poker player worth over 1mill is considered pretty flush. it's much different than the real world... from what i gather, normal people who have a mill sweat over whether their portfolio returns 8% or 11% for the year, and are generally guarded about their spending. it's not unusual for a poker player who's running high to spend 600-1mill in cash over a year in bellagio bills and the like. in london at the wsop europe, a lot of poker players were staying in rooms that cost $800+/night.... expenses in the 15-20k range for a 2week stretch were not uncommon. --ba

Re: What are the top pros worth?
yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. i don't think there are all that many poker pros who are worth more than a couple million.
the guys that have the real money are the guys who have great business deals (hellmuth), pieces of the online poker sites, or to a lesser extent, play regularly with the super wealthy in private games. tc |

Re: What are the top pros worth?
Obviously Doyle is saying that to make even more hype around the show, even though it's the truth for some of them
Lineup: Antonio Esfandiari <- I'd guess about $2-3 mill Sam Farha <- Probably worth $10 mill+ David Benyamine <- -$$$ Patrik Antonius <- Probably worth $10 mill+ Guy Laliberté <- billionaire Jamie Gold <- PROBABLY worth $10 mill+ Doyle Brunson <- Probably worth $10 mill+ Barry Greenstein <- Probably worth $10 mill+ BR is another case, I'd say people have action (40%+) in David Benyamine (who in this lineup!?), Barry Greenstein and Antonio Esfandiari Comments are welcome |
Re: What are the top pros worth?
Gee who would have guessed Caby would show up in this thread.
|
Re: What are the top pros worth?
I don't think 500k is playing too high for these guys, they have played in games higher than this. The only person that shouldn't be playing is jamie gold, but he said the only reason he played is because he did so well on the days before. And doesn't DN play in this and he recently did his 500k challenge with players this year so it would be hard to think that he doesn't have the bankroll for this game.

yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. i don't think there are all that many poker players that call themselves pros who are worth more than a ONE million. the guys that have the real money are the guys who have great business' as well deals (hellmuth), pieces of the online poker sites, or to a lesser extent, play regularly with the super wealthy in private games. tc [/ QUOTE ] I would even take a shot betting the UNDER on that assumption. There are WAAAY too many naive estimations of a poker players networth based on internet BS they hear,or want to believe based on poker earnings alone IMO SF |
Re: What are the top pros worth?
Brad Booth is worth approximately 1 million "cool millions"
He is a very rich man, ladies and gentlemen. Actually you might be intersted in knowing that i watched this "High Stakes Poker" tv show one time and actually watched mr. Brad Booth buy into said tv show with a Cool Million. |

Patrik Antonius <- Probably worth $10m+ Guy Laliberté <- Billionaire Jamie Gold <- Most definitely NOT worth $10m wtf? where would he have gotten it from Doyle Brunson <- Net-worth of $10m+ prob but I would def. think he's no-where near rolled for any of his gambling. Barry Greenstein <- Same as Doyle |
Re: What are the top pros worth?
youll never4 know because you will never find out about investments they make outside of poker.

Re: What are the top pros worth?

Re: What are the top pros worth?
Didn't "BloodsweatandTears" Say that in order to play comfortably you need 100 buy ins. 500k x 100 = 500million BR. I guess everyone is under rolled for this game besides Guy Laliberte. Doyle is right!

Re: What are the top pros worth?
Jamie Gold must have a damn deathwish with regards to his own money to sit in a game that size with that line-up. The only guy in that game that I don't think is a significant favorite to Gold is Guy (and I doubt Guy is anything but a small dog to Gold).
I'm sure Gold's selling some of his action, but my question is, who the hell is buying it in this game? |

Re: What are the top pros worth?
As another poster touched on, BR requirements are usually quite a bit higher that the 20 BI figure that always gets thrown around.
In this case, I can't fathom what kind of BR a player in this particular game would need, but I'd bet it's pretty high. I don't know what kind of edges they have on each other, but I suspect they're pretty good over this billionare. |

Re: What are the top pros worth?
I don't think 500K should be considered 1 buyin. If they're playing 500/100/100 it's not 1 buyin (I wouldn't say 5 either).
I'm preety sure most of these guys sold over 50% of their action |

Re: What are the top pros worth?
i think that most pros think in terms of bankroll=net worth. i know that i lump it all together. there are a few very disciplined types that seperate the two, but that isn't the usual story. also, i think that most gamblers lump unpaid debts into the 'asset' category when determining their net worth, when in fact many of these debts should be listed at a big discount. lending money is just such a bad idea. --ba

Re: What are the top pros worth?
Lot of blah blah about this 500k buy-in game but it isn`t much different then the last few episodes of the last season.
The blinds are the same (with mandatory straddle but players were straddling most of the time every season so far anyway) There was over 4mill at the table last season. Brad - 1 mill, PA 500k , Ivey and David 300k each etc etc. The only thing out of ordinary in next week game is the rich fish and I`m sure all of the Pros will be gunning for him and stay out of marginal situations against each other. I think it`s silly to bring such a great source of income like Guy and humiliate him on TV when he is losing millions to them online and live already. |
