Tilt Prevention Suggestions Thread

feel free to share any tips

i used to tilt bad (mostly at SNGs and limit). anyways, here is what worked for me (haven't suffered any major tilt in at least a month)

a) Dead Can Dance cds or iTunes radio (ambient stations)

b) i usually turn lights off or keep them dim

c) keep my room clean and spacious (dunno just seems to feel more feng shui)

d) realizing that every decision i face is just another decision that i need to make given the info (rather than thinking "why does this keep happening to me")

e) reviewing hands where i lost big pots and seeing that most of them are because i do something dumb (this way i don't feel helpless or like a victim of bad luck)

Music is always a good choice, most people play music when they play online don't they?

Find a bad regular and berate him in chat.
Go play 01/02 and shove repeatedly until you suck out on something premium.
Just quit. Go exercise, jog a mile, play basketball.

Just do something.

- sleepy well and eaty well
- get some hobby for socializing
- do some active sports on regular basis for feely well and stress releif
- ideally get a part time job so your not stuck at the computer 10 hours a day

One psychological thing that helped me tremendously is calculating my tilt free winrate I went through the DB looking for hands where I easily could get away and clearly tilted. Result was so shocking that I now I am hardly pressed making stupid calls anymore. When you do this a tilt more you think its kinda close, but then you review the hand and you see you are just dumb. So now when I think its kinda close, I often just avoid the situation all together.

I think a lot of tilt has to do with the mindset that you bring to the table. I used to go on serious monkey tilt any time i lost a pot with more than 80% equity. Until one day i just said to myself "hey, it happens." When I finally took that mindset, it affected every part of my life.

Black Crows, or Dave always seems to help keep the tilt monkey away. I used to do the TV thing to but it was to distracting, now I keep on XM Radio or Music.com...

I put a post-it on my monitor that says "Stop. Think."

I find that the worst problem with tilt is making snap gut decisions like, "He's bluffing!"

If I just stop. and think. I can save myself some money.

Heh, I did that once. Lasted about 3 days before I had to replace not only the post-it but the monitor as well.

Just think to yourself that the other guy is a huge donk that got lucky and that in the long run you will win. If villan shows a really donkish starting hand like 97o vs your AQ raised pf and board comes 9A9x7 Tell them how much they suck and leave the table.

seriously though if you lose a real huge pot just take a couple hours off. usually works for me

Re: Anti-tilt Suggestions Thread

I feel like I am pretty prone to tilt, something I definitely have to work on. Whenever I lose a big pot that has a reasonable chance of tilting me, or I make a really bad play that makes me tilt myself, I just close out the games. I dont mean finishing my rounds, I literally close out full tilt, mid hand or not. Obviously if Im involved in another big hand I dont do this til after that had completes but you get the idea. I then take about 20 mins off, watch some sports center, post on here, whatever. Then I go back, if I feel like Im still tilting, I take another 20 until Im ready. I rather take 4 hours of down time before I start playing again than rush back into it and give away 8 buy ins like an ass.

LOL, thinking that the guy is a huge donk and in the "long run" I will win would put me on full blown tilt. I usually find something sturdy that I know I can't break and then just pound my fist into it a few times.. To each his/her own eh...

Only one thing works for me. Stop playing. Or, play a different game like PLO, limit, SNG, etc.

[/ QUOTE ]Heh, yeah. It's pretty standard for big hands to lose so it doesn't bother me. Most people seem to be opposite.

I asked support to ban my chat. I think not having chat cleansed some of the tilt.
My graph doesn't agree.
