Wynn to MOVE poker room (was: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room)
According to VegasTodayAndTomorrow:
"According to an inside source, Encore will have an interesting feature. Between the "garden" area and the casino. There will be a small indoor lake with two bridges to an island. The island will house the new poker room and the VIP high-limit slot area (that will surly keep the gawkers from breathing down the necks of the poker players). The old poker room at WLV and the rooms around it will be removed, widening the corridor that now leads to the theaters (Le Reve and Spamalot). This reclaimed area will be an expansion to the WLV casino and the path to Encore. (remember, this is just a rumor)." I always feel like a zoo exhibit when playing 2-5 at Wynn because the railtards can be right on you. The higher limit area works out fine, but positioning the room in the middle of both hotels seems to make perfect sense. VegasTodayAndTomorrow is a sick site too. They do an excellent job showing you everything that's going on in Vegas in terms of construction / new hotels etc. |
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
For those not aware, Encore is the new Wynn project which is going up rapidly.

Re-title this to : Wynn to MOVE poker room.
It's not going to "close". It's probably getting moved. |

Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
jesus christ this thread scared me...
|
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
Stupidly worded thread title.
And that sucks if they actually end up getting rid of the rail. |
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
The original plan (a few years ago) was to have a poker room at both locations. They also thought the current room would have taken all of the high limit action in town so a change of plans would seem likely.
|
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
That blows. The room is in the perfect location right now. The very, very slight bother caused by railbirds is more than offset by the skank parade late night on the way to the parking garage.
|
Re: Wynn to MOVE poker room (was: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room)
People who don't want to be watched while they play assure themselves of far fewer tourist walk-in players and far more of the players that know what they are doing and are willing to seek out poker tables. The rail is a good thing, although currently in the wynn it could use to be about 5 feet back from where it is without moving the tables.
|
Re: Wynn to MOVE poker room (was: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room)
How many players come in and see a game larger than 4/8 or 1/3 at the Wynn and play it because they saw it from the rail? It may be good for the card room, but putting a game by the rail is meaningless for the bigger than minimum limit players. They don't play against the railbirds.
|
Re: Wynn to MOVE poker room (was: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room)
Most of the games by the rail are 4/8 and 1/3, occasionally 2/5.

You are correct that fewer players leave the rail to play mid-high limits, but you seem to ignore that almost all the players in your current game, started on the rail. Players may not leave the rail and go directly to your game but the rail feeds the entry level games and the entry level games feed the next higher levels, etc. |
Re: Wynn to MOVE poker room (was: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room)
Well, it sounds like it will be a very pretty room, with a lovely ambiance. Without visibility to passers-by, it could also become very rocky. Unless top-shelf liquor served by attractive young women is sufficient to draw poorer players. It may well be---dunno. Wouldn't do much for me, but I'm not a guy.
VIP high limit slots seems an odd choice to pair with a poker room on the "island", however. Wouldn't table games make more sense? |

About 15 minutes after I am back, here he comes, plops down $1K and proceeds to prove that he has never played in a casino in his life, donates about half and leaves. I was playing some 2/5 one time on a table next to the rail. A couple of ladies are watching the game... Folds to the BTN who raises, folds to the BB in seat 9 who is about to RR when one of the ladies... "OH! Look he has aces!". He was not super careful looking at his cards, but he was not flashing them around either... The rail needs to be there, but needs to be back further. |

One of the benefits of Wynn's room is that it's so damn close to the parking garage, unlike Venetian's room. I like the idea of having one main room though, you have to wonder if Venetian / Palazzo will keep it at one room. |
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
On several occasions I have overheard random people approach the sign up board at the wynn asking what no limit games they can play and obviously do not have much if any experience with live poker. When asked what stakes they want to play they often say whatever opens up first. at the time, that included everything from 1/3 to 10/20 and the guy ended up in the 10/20 game. Clearly these type of people probably decide on a whim they want to play poker and money doesn't really matter and those are people you want in the game that might not otherwise be there if the poker room is in a secluded location.

The origional plan as per my meeting with Wynn VP of Marketing 2 years ago was to place the new poker room in the middle of the pit, in a pool like indentation on the floor so you can look down on the games, surrounded by table card games. I was told this in the first three months or so of operation at Wynn if I remember correctly, it was during the same meeting that I learned that Wynn was planning a third theater for Spamalot which was originally going to postpone Encore development to reallocate resources - but that was canceled since Avenue Q closed. |

I highly doubt you'll loose walkup traffic in fact I think you'll increase it since it'll be inbetween both resorts. |
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
Moving the room farther from the parking lot is a big win. Less local nits.
|
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
Seriously, the one thing the wynn poker room needs right now is a well thought out redo, this sounds like the best possible thing that could have happened to wynn and i'm excited to possibly play there more often in the future

Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
Well, the drunk idiot ratio at Caesars AC is off the chart....not coincidentally the poker room is right on the casino floor. Some of the "gamblers" only end up in the poker room because they bump into it. Without question location makes a difference at 1/2 - 2/5 NL.

Its possible that the plans shared with you were not the vision that company spokeswoman was projecting, weren't you only there for 3 months before flying off? By the time I came in for a meeting I think you had stopped working there. BUT if you take my experience and your experience and combine them together we can find a common thread. I was told there would be a new room because the original room was designed and planned before the poker boom - it was almost as if it was an afterthought, and by this time the Daniel partnership was already falling a bit flat on its face. Was the second room discussed as part of the Daniel deal to encourage additional high-limit business that he wanted to bring in but wasn't capable of providing? By the time I met with Denise I think it was clear a lot of the Daniel ideas had failed. |

I like the idea of having one main room though, you have to wonder if Venetian / Palazzo will keep it at one room. [/ QUOTE ] I was told by a long-time in-the-know employee at Venetian that they are supposedly building an underground parking garage with the Palazzo that will allow people to enter the V from the area past the sportsbook (where the Players Card signup area is). No new 2nd room, they've dumped too much money into the current one. As for the new Wynn/Encore room, the rumor TT mentions, with it originally planned to be in the middle of the pit, is the rumor that's been "going around town" for awhile. I can't see the positives in sticking the poker room by itself, literally, on an island, with high-limit slots in the middle of a "lake" that'll require bridges to reach it. It really depends on how large this lake is supposed to be... if you consider the space needed for both a poker room and a high-limit slot parlor, plus some room to maneuver... unless the water surrounding the "island" is going to look more like a moat surrounding a poker room/high-limit slots castle, this new poker room is going to be in the middle of nothing, with hardly any walk-by business except for gawkers on the outskirts of the pond wondering in. |
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
Yeah, Palazzo will have underground parking right below the hotel itself leading directly into the casino, unlike the cluster f'up that is the venetians current parking setup.

The original plan (pre-opening of Wynn) was to open another poker room in Encore. They were literally thinking of it as though they would compete against each other. i.e. two separate properties. Like I said, they also thought the current poker room would only have nose bleed games, so the line of thinking may well have changed post opening. I was there for a year (9 months pre opening), only to open the poker room. After it was open for 3 months i left. |

Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
Mike - I had associate who were involved in Los Ramblas, their vision was high limit players only as well, a casino with a dress code. I think you know what happened to that project. There isnt a high-limit only poker room in the world because high limit players want to be near action too - low limit players help add to the excitement in the room.

[/ QUOTE ] The Cosmopolitan will have the same design, where all parking will be underneath the actual resort due to limited space. I didn't realize Bellagio allowed self park in the North entrance prior to 9/11. "Visitors of the Palazzo (using the massive 4,000-space underground parking garage) will take elevators or escalators from the garage directly to the center of the property's casino. That's a far cry from the meandering maze one must endure from the Venetian parking to its casino." |
Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
Why would 9/11 affect use of an underground parking garage? Terrorists flew airplanes into skyscrapers. The parallel would be to disallow parking on the 40th floor.
The World Trade Center garage bombing was in 1993. |
