Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I don't allow it when I host. People had been showing up with burritos, pizza, sausage subs, and eating them at the table while playing cards. No more. I also don't allow eating at the table of anything that is greasy, like potato chips. I don't mind pretzels, but anything that gets your hands dirty, I don't want at the table. I like to keep my table, chips, and cards, clean of that stuff.
Am I being reasonable or not? |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
No. Who cares. people don't have to eat and play at the same time.
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
have a break so all the fattys or pot heads can eat

Besides that you already made your decision so I'm not sure what any of our opinions would matter. I guess just schedule a few breaks and things will be fine. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I love it when people eat at the table!
It's much easier to play against them! They wouldn't bother to play mediocre hands, so if they are in, you know they have a monster! |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Of course no food at table!
It's much harder to play against eaters! They won't bother playing mediocre hands, so their main leak of being too loose is corrected! |

Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
No eating at a home game? Pfft. Definitely retarded.
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Really depends what they're eating imo. If they're eating chips or similar, I always ask them to put some towel next to them to clean their hands (or to go wash their hands) when they have to touch any cards because I don't want them to get dirty after one evening of play.
Other stuff - like most candy in general - isn't a problem. Bigger stuff - like pizza, kebab, etc. - I always nicely ask them to eat it first, and then continu playing. Never had a problem with it. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I don't like it, but I allow it.
I especially don't like jerk offs handling my sweet chips with their greasy fingers. www.homepokertour.com/graphics/bdc_chips2.jpg |

Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Eating at home poker sucks. It's always greasey food that gets on the cards and the chips. Nothing you can do about it though people are there to have a good time so I accept it
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I loath letting people eat at my table at home. It cost like $2500 bucks and is a bitch to clean when crumbs get over the felt and grease on the leather. I also forbid chewing tobacco and only serve bottled water as drinks.
Whenever I have people over they always bitch at me to get them food. It's probably the most annoying thing ever. I'm not here to entertain you.. your here to play poker! I usually stall for like 3 hours then go upstairs and get the shittiest bag of non-greasy food I can find. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I guess I'm in the minority. I don't care about my tables, cards, chips that much. I mean, I don't serve nachos or cheese fries, but if guys want to eat something, and drink something, fine. They're adults.
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I don't allow brought-in food at my table (they can sit out and eat, wash up and come back in). I do provide non-greasy snacks like candy, cookies, pretzels, and pizza for breaks.
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
No friggin' way am I allowing these drunken stoners to eat meals at the table. I like my table, I like my felt, I like my chips, I like my cards. We have other tables and surfaces.
In cash games, they eat away from the table. In tourneys, we have time for dinner, and the occasional slice of pizza later in the evening is put on side tables. Nothing messier than that allowed. Besides, do you want to handle cards, chips, and money while you eat food that requires licking your fingers? Eew. |

[/ QUOTE ] What kinda pizza do you eat? As a drunken stoner, if I do provide food, I provide finger food away from the table with no plates, and plenty of napkins. Hasn't been a problem yet, but if someone sat at the table with greasey fingers, I would aask them to wash their hands. If anyone complains, tell 'em their greasey fingers mark the cards and others will support you, not that you need a reason, or support in your own home. It is just nice to have, so you don't have to kick some argumentative a-hole out of your game. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Where can I buy a non-greasy pizza? That would be awesome!
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
A slice or two of cold pizza (we take a break for dinner proper) eaten on a side table with a napkin isn't nearly as big of a potential mess as someone scarfing down his meatball sub and pile of fries with ketchup while managing rebuys. DUCY?
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I say you’re being reasonable. It’s not only rude to damage your property with greasy food, a cheat could use it to mark the cards.

People like to eat that is why casinos offer food. I would have food and use plastic cards and clean my chips regularly while being vigilant about supplying plenty of towels and encouraging players to only touch cards or chips with clean hands. In my game ($5 $10 NL) the big winner from the previous week brings food and 2nd winner stocks the fridge. The amounts spent are a fraction of the money won and creates a good feeling for all. |

Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
No. I order pizza when people arrive and buy in. When the pizza shows up it goes right in the kitchen. When you're not in a hand go eat your slice in there. SOMETIMES a slice makes its way out to the table but it's rare. Best to keep the food off the table.
At the casino, I'll order stuff to eat... but then I sit out for 10 minutes while I eat away from the table. Funny thing is that people usually sit at an empty poker table and carefully spread out the paper bag the food came in and eat just like that. I've never been yelled at for doing so, and you can tell I'm being ultra careful about eating.. but this is at the casino. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Jesus christ, it's a home poker game! Stop being nits ffs.
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
No eating at the table. Have a dedicated food break or something like that.

[/ QUOTE ] Wow, your game sounds like a lot of fun! [/ QUOTE ] LOL. In my weekly game we regularly order Dominos, it comes out to <$5 person including tip and there is always some left over. I don't get the nittiness of some of these responses, generally we'll throw a slice or two onto a napkin and return to the table, playing with our other hand. I have never seen nor heard of any instances of greasy or marked cards and I've been a part of this for over a year now. Then again it's as much of a social event as anything, so maybe the vibe is more conducive to this sort of thing than some of the higher stakes games you guys play. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Eating at the table is not a problem in my games. I always have plenty of food. But I also have side tables for food and drinks to be placed on. There is only one rule regarding food and drink: It does not go on or over the poker tables. I will jump on a person immediately for violating this rule. Players know this, and know I'm serious about it, so it very rarely happens.
I find it strange that so many say no food at the table but I bet a lot allow drinks. Do you allow these on the table? Do your beer bottles and glasses not sweat or are drops of water no big deal? I guess no one's ever had a drink spilled at their game. |

The food isn't so much because of the table as it is the chips and cards. Besides, we have a chill room with other chairs and couches and tables and music and whatever. Nobody has ever complained that they had to eat while enjoying other amenities. |

I guess no one's ever had a drink spilled at their game. [/ QUOTE ] I have a table with nice deep steel cup holders in it. This keeps condensation etc from hitting the felt and makes drinks generally hard to knock over. A long beer bottle can still get knocked but most of my friends drink spirits from short glasses at the table and the cup holders keep them well out of the way of being knocked over. Greasy food I tend to avoid at the table but I am not a nazi about it. I just try to encourage eaters to take it to the other table and clean their hands afterwards. But then my home game is mostly just a bunch of mates getting drunk and having fun on a saturday. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Food usually isn't the problem at my home games. Everyone has pretty much eaten before the gaming starts so no one is trying to take down a bucket of chicken at the table or anything like that. Pretzels, nuts, chips, I am fine with. The bigger problem is cigarette smoke. I enjoy a cigar now and then. As soon as I light up, 3 or 4 cigarettes join in as well. Before I know it my place smells like a bowling alley. I don't mind the smell of a cigar, but cigarettes are a different story. The solution here is obvious, not to allow smoking of any kind. But poker night is my time to drink hooch and enjoy a nice cigar away from the girlfriend so I allow my place to turn into a smoky jazz bar 1 night a week.

It's your house, set the rules. If done well, people will respect it. I allow any kind of smoking except for cigarettes. They can go outside for that, bond with the other cancer-suckers. This may be an advantage to living in California. Most of the smokers I know don't even smoke in their own houses. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Like my mama said; "If you don't have enough to share with everyone, then it's rude." And we all know poker players are never rude.
I stopped going to a game because the host would ALWAYS throw a frozen pizza into the oven about 1 hour into the game and NEVER offer anyone a piece... because he would eat the whole dame thing. At my games, sometimes someone will run for tacos or something, but the eating has to be done away from the table and the cards keep going. It's called manners, and I'm suprised how many people lack them. |
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
yes
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
I dont mind eating as long as its with a fork. findger foods i say no bc [censored] gets all over the cards.
|
Re: Eating At the Table -- Yes or No?
Definately no smoking allowed. All but one of the hosts in my league do not allow smoking at the table or anywhere inside the location where the game is played. For the one who does, I never attend his games. I do have one or two breaks for people who want to step outside and have a smoke.
