It's not like anyones ever gonna hear from Raymond Rahme again?
Tuan Lam? |
Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
PR/marketing.
|
Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
ok.
|
Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
because pokerstars likes to have the best players in the world. and since it's the world championship of poker, the people who finish at the top are obviously the best players in the world (LDO) so it's only natural

Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
signing Ray Rahme did make me laugh, he hardly typifies online poker.

signing Ray Rahme did make me laugh, he hardly typifies online poker. [/ QUOTE ] I LOL at some of their names but the strategy is clear, they are targeting every countries with potentiality. I even wrote an email to them that as an Italian I don't see myself looking like Dario Minieri but they have a point, they guy went deep in the WSOP, he has been chip leader for while and in the end the average fish just look at this, they are not digging deep into his results or anything. Rahme represented well his country, he mentioned it few times during the interviews and this was very smart. Unfortunately you don't get recognized by the mass only for winning a lot online, Annette was nowhere near as famous as she is right now even though she won almost as much online as live. I see poker growing in Italy and TV is THE MEAN, all the other news are for aficionados like us. So I am afraid we need to luckbox a FT at the WSOP to get a contract, no matter how donk or good we are. |
Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
Dario is the only one of the 4 who didn't automatically get a spot on team PS because of his finish. The bonuses that Stars offers for FTing are the pay for being on team PS for 1 year. It's not like stars went and recruited Raymond, Tuan, or Hevad...

And Lam has the personality of a pencil so I wonder what their reason was. |

[quoteI agree with what you said but Africa (as stated previously) I don't think is on the verge of a poker boom
[/ QUOTE ] South Africa has very little to do with most of the african countries, there are actually many rich areas like the whole south and several areas of Johannesburg. Besides, as someone specified before I think if you play as a PS player the ME and you reach the FT you get a contract by default. What I do not understand is why they do not make a stronger effort in targetting asian countries like Japan (China is a world apart), Indonesia, Malaysia or even India... |

I agree that the comment was not flattering, but how do you know he is an American? And even if he is, you now have insulted him like he insulted you and therefore are no better then him.

Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
lol, Tuan Lam iirc is a big winner at 200/400 limit on stars.
Honestly, Stars PR department is [censored] genius. They signed people that represented all demographics: 1. Raymond Rahme. I know what you're all thinking, why would stars represent this guy. Let's look at demographics, not only is he representing another country (south africa), he's also representing the age demographic. If signing Rahme brings the 50+yo crowd over to Stars, then signing Rahme has done it's job. 2. Tuan Lam. Already an established pro before the WSOP iirc. Stars signed him because he finished second (and yes, David Williams got signed as well for finishing second, just not on stars..) He brings the asian demographic as well. 3. Hevad "Rainkhan" Khan. *shrug* act like a goofball on tv, go deep = money obv. It's not like he wasn't a person that played a ton on stars anyways, so I don't see what they have to lose by signing him. BTW, there is a big difference between signing a person to exclusive play/represent on their site then being a spokesperson. I guarantee you that neither one of these 3 will be on a pokerstars commercial. |

if any of them, i see hevad since he's marketable the other 2 aren't marketable obviously |
Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
what benefits do the players get for signing with stars?

The Rahme thing is lol because I really wish that ESPN had shown him tilt major and try to bust only to fail when his intentionally bad plays worked out. Some selective editing kept him from looking like a pretty major douche and now has made him some money. |

Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
Steve - Paul ambrose? Yeah he won the stars big tourney but that was what 2 years ago? And he luckboxed his way through the final table. Go it in with the worst of itmost of the time and drew out.
But stars must know what they are doing, so lets not question their business decisions. I doubt ANY business in the world has grown as much as they have in last 5 years. |

[/ QUOTE ] I actually forgot all about that, my bad [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] Dids may be right about Danneman, but if so who in their right mind turns down a contract of ANY kind lol, I can't imagine any sponsorship where the cons outweigh the pro's |

Re: Why are so many [censored] wsop finishers getting Stars contracts?
THE STRATEGY IS CLEAR. WHEN YOU OWN A BUSINESS YOU TRY TO "GET THE WORD OUT" BY SPONSORING PLAYERS WHO ARE "RECOGNIZABLE" A PLAYER BECOMES "RECOGNIZABLE" BY BEING ON NATIONAL TV A LOT. GETTING TO THE ME FINAL TABLE MEANS YOU ARE ON NATIONAL TV A LOT. COINCIDENCE? NOT LIKELY!
