Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
My computer is running anywhere from 60-100% when I am just 6 tabling Party and running one other site.
I bought my computer last April and it is a 3.00 GHZ Pentium 4, 2.99 GHz, 2.00 GB RAM. I also have 3 video cards in the machine, will I still be able to stuff more RAM in there? |
Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
that's odd that it's using that much CPU. i sincerely doubt more RAM will help.
is it partygaming.exe that's using up all the CPU time? |
Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
I have PT and PV running as well, but Partygaming is huge. 80k. Using anywhere from 40-50% when I go to processes, PT is usually around 20. System Idle Process floats anywhere from 13-50 as well.

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
the system idle process is just 100-(sum of all programs running), i think
are you resizing windows? that seems to give a lot of people problems. I think it's probably pretty safe to say that it's party's problem and not yours. you could possibly alleviate the problem by messing with the page file permissions for party but i have no idea what |
Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
nope, no resizing windows. The old Party used up way less memory.

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
With specs like that your machine should run like a champ. That is very odd. Did a disk defragment make any difference? Its just hard to see that more ram would solve that. Its unreal why it is taking up so much system resources.

anybody got any ideas?

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
Cut down your porn surfing time. My computer is a little better than yours (I only have 2 gcards) and i run Party perfectly. Try doing a scan for malicious spyware and so forth. Back in my CS days, my computer would lag hardcore whenever i even tried to run CS. Did a scan and got rid of everything -BOOM- back to normal speed.

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
Gotta be Spyware/Adware, or processes that are severely leaking memory (as Firefox is known to do).

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
does going from 2 to 4 gigs make much of a difference, assuming the computer is going to be 8 tabling + PAHUD + PT + AIM + Itunes/movie? or is 2 enough for all that.

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
I have had the same problem, i emailed party and they told me i am full of [censored] and it must be my system, i am still looking for an answer, but today i did try and fiddle with the paging file settings, which seemed to help but it was only a day so i need to play a bit longer to se if it has really made a difference

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
I have the same problem with party since the "upgrade". The problem seems to get worse the longer I have the client open, so I think its a memory leak, but I havent really looked into it yet.

[/ QUOTE ] I am thinking of buying a new comp and 4gb was an option on some of the configurations. that was at alienware.com. a bit of a tangent, but if i am looking to buy a new pc, what are the best sites to configure and buy a prebuilt? I have heard some negative things about dell, but maybe that is just stupid anecdotal stuff. I am looking to spend 2000 or so. I don't really want to build my own, not worth the time and hassle for me. |
Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
Dell is okay, but if customer service isn't important to you, I'd go with any of the third-party builders that use actual parts, and not commissioned ones from Dell.

Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
Monarch Computer
The phrase you're looking for for "actual computer parts" is "industry standard upgradeable." Monarch is the place. |
Re: Party lagging my comp, buy more ram?
Yeah, "industry standard upgradeable," aka, not proprietary hardware like Dell uses on their PSUs and motherboards.
EDIT: But yes, Monarch is good. |
