PS3 or Wii
 

Maybe both..but i'm trying to decide which console i'd like to buy. PS3 is being marked down to 399$ on Nov. 2nd, and the Wii costs 250$.

i've looked at a list of games, which seems for the most part to be FPS type games, which i'm ok with i suppose, but i'm more of a silent hill type of game player.

I'd like people's opinions on the 2 systems, and if u own it, what don't u/do you like. and more importantly which games do u own and how the controlling is for them.



i DISLIKE sports games (which includes boxing) and i DISLIKE racing games (i don't care how nice the graphics are).

if having access to a wider range of games matters to you, then go w/the ps3. idk if nintendo hopes to have more 3rd party games on the wii, but in the past they've had fewer than the other major systems.

i would get a wii over the ps3, but tbh i think you should just get a 360.

PS3 PS3 PS3 PS3. The biggest drawback would be if what people are saying about Sony removing the backwards compatibility is true. If you have a PS2 already then you are set. I haven't followed any of it at all and already have my PS3 and love it. I don't think it makes any sense for them to take it out or it would save the money everyone thinks it would save them. The next Silent Hill game is already in production for the PS3. I can't wait.

The graphics are fantastic on the PS3, even launch games are fantastic. I haven't used the Sixaxis to it's full potential in the games, only when it requires me to do so. I've played a Wii before and really disliked it, maybe it was the game selection I played. Either way I highly recommend getting the PS3. In addition now you have a Blu Ray player and didn't have to pay as much as they are listed in the stores and it plays some fantastic games.

i have all 3 and the ps3 and wii just sit and collect dust. Xbox 360 owns all.

perhaps. however i do like zelda, and would buy a wii just for that game, but was hoping i would have a few other games i could buy (example games on the cube that can be played on the wii)

Unless there is an exclusive game for the ps3 you want to play (Final Fantasy for example) there is no reason to get it. Game Manufactures great games for the lowest common denominator in this case the 360

This should be in the video games forum as there is lots of discussion on all 3.

Between the PS3 & Wii I would go w/ the PS3 due to HD graphics, blue-ray, and the games I play (Oblivion, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden, plus GTA, FF, MGS to come). Wii is fun if you're playing a lot w/ other people, but if it's just for yourself I think it will lose its marvel quickly unless you're into that sort of thing.

Since the OP doesn't like shooters, racers, or sports games I wouldn't recommend the 360. It does have Oblivion & GH and soon to be released Mass Effect and the graphics are great, but the game selection is fairly limited if you aren't into the aforementioned games. Also

Lots of good news for the PS3 (ignore the first link, that was terrible on my part...), so if any of this looks like games you'd be into I'd recommend the PS3.

I would assume that you don't want to purchase a new machine when they are 15-17, right? I would just ask them. What kind of games do they like?

Shooters, sports, racing games -> 360
3rd person adventure games, RPG -> PS3
wii is kind of a new niche market that doesn't really do the 'classic' games very well, but does have that new marvel to it, and some cool games unlike anything on the PS3 or 360.

Wii is probably your best choice now as it also has the most muliplayer/party type games they can play now.

This is kind of a touchy subject so owners of only one system will defend it to the death. I've only dabbled in the wii (not really by thing), but own both a PS3 and a 360 FWIW and this is from my experience. The only thing I play on my 360 right now is Halo and I'm waiting for Mass Effect in Nov.

Maybe subconciously [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img], but not all racers are actually sport type racers, like Driver or ATV offroad and games like that.

yes, definitely the Wii for kids (the under-12 set). ps3/360 are geared for teens/adults.

even babies like the wii, eh:

360 is the best console ever made.

i used to play oblivion, then got stuck as a vampire and couldnt be bothered doing all the mage quests so i could do the vampire quest to get told to go see some old bitch who would tell me to find some empty grand soul gems (not EZ). So i sed [censored] it, deleted my save file and played GOW.

best decision in life so far imo.

lol no console with a 30 percent failure rate can ever be called the best system ever.

in response to the OP id say get the ps3 due to the fact that the wii is a gamecube with a wand and ive never been a big fan of either :-/

the wii is a lot of fun, my little brother has one and i was playing it all summer. Only problem was after extended play there were a few times where my wrist was really hurting, and having shooting pains/numbness for the rest of the day after playing. I would still prob get the wii though, it's just really cool in that it's actually a different experience than any other system I've played before. Legend of Zelda was great on it.
