A german poker pro once said in an article that he used to play in russia and the games were really soft.
But one day some someone came up to him, saying:
"From now on you play for me"
He left Russia immediately.
Russia is not save, especially not for foreign people.
Russia is still corrupt, so i doubt that many players will start playing there.

in general or in this particular situation. While you may think negative things from his TV persona he is actually well thought of elsewhere.

Funny thing about Tony G is that he is the flavor of the month, literally every pro I talk to brings his name up in projects they are involved with. Which is funny because that means that Cardplayer never really got it. If Cardplayer was smart they would have had every pro poker player sending them waves of players yet they didn't take the Tony G approach of giving most of it to the people that brought it.

where do you live?

in russia live two types of people:
first and bigger group: poor people who live under extremely bad conditions
second: the rich people, they are extremely rich and dont know what to do with all their money

the second group play for some million dollars for fun, they dont care

QFT. The amount of money and luxury in Moscow is much sicker then NYC/Vegas nowadays. You can find people with so much money that losing 5-20MIL to them is nothing. Remember, these are not your Wall Street, Harvard graduate ballers, these are ex-cons, mafia leaders, corrupt politicians etc.

I am from Russia, and I am not suprised that there are such big games going on in Moscow. There are so many rich people there, and they made their millions(some even billions) in pretty short period of time.They were people with the everage income and now they are super rich and they want everything the best and the biggest:aeroplanes, fancy cars, huge houses and if they decide to gamble, they want the biggest game.
Also I think russians have a lot of gamble in them just like asians, arabs, scandinavians and americans. Btw I think it is pretty safe for the high limit pros to come to Moscow and play in those games, it's not 90s anymore when it was very dangerous and just [censored] crazy.

"Now comes the biggest hand of my life so far. I hope I can play as there is a mandatory straddle of 7k and a reraise. I re-pop it to make it 85k before the flop with 4 way action. The flop is 10-7-6 with 2 diamonds giving me a nut flush draw, there is a bet of pot but the guy is close to all in so I move over the top and get called by a big stack. 3.15 million in the pot now. The cards are shown. They both have the nut straights, with one guy having a flush draw as well and the other guy having one diamond so just 6 outs for the flush or I need a pair and an Ace from space. The turn and river are both Diamonds"

can someone please translate this? why does he shout on the second diamond? what are his cards? why does he hope he can play? how can he raise a pot sized bet of 85k get called and finish with a pot of 3.15million?? also who risks over a million dollars on a flush draw?
