am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
when I go to the B&M i'm usually in tight/weak mode preflop
i'm normally playing on only 1 or 2 buy-ins and this is way over my head for playing cuz i have to play super squeaky midget tight on 1/2 NL 100max in loose games where there's normally an open raise every hand (and people i know who are higher stakes regs) i like to limp fold EP w/ suited aces and mid pairs and i use these weak moves to set up check raises w/ AA and KK preflop ... and i think my bet sizes price people in and pretty much force a call. anyway, here's the actions... i need to see if any of this needs tweaked, so let me know suggestions... UTG dealt KsKc, i limp for $2... UTG+1 raises to 7, 2 cold calls, MP3 raises to 17... folded around to me... i bet 51 (half of my 101 stack) ... guy who is high stakes regular (5/10 NL) for this casino asks me if i have AA or KK again cuz he's saw me do this 2 or 3 times w/ those hands on the table... i give off a false tell of weakness (shifting in chair uneasy a bit) he cold calls AK...after some thought flop Js 10c 4s... he checks to me... i bet 25 and he C/R's me AI... which is instacall... and i lose to A on river Same thing happened before... 100 stack UTG limp w/ AA, call call call call call call call and the aggro big blind predictably put in his raise against a field of limpers to 17 which was bigger than the norm of 12. i bet 50 (half of my 100) and flop is 10 5 3 ... he checks from SB i bet 50 into 100 and give him 3/1 and calls w/ JJ and turns set. this sounds like it should be BBV but am i doing anything wrong here? should i really just be pushing these for 6-7 bet raises preflop or is my action gathering bet right? i've tightened up alot from what i used to play and it seems like i'm worse off b/c of it. i'm running bad lately and it sucks when i borrow 100 or 200 to play and lose it to stuff like this |

Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
yeah getting your money in as a 90/10 favourite is terrible and should be avoided
|
Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
Wow yeah, if you're that readable that he can ask you if you have KK or AA, you're doing it wrong.

i'm talking about the trapping and bet sizing

Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
i open raise and i might as well turn my hand face up...
it's like "wow... what do u have AA or KK".... which is why i limp like i normally do |
Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
BBV please
|
Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
Raise more hands if that's the problem.

Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
do people not understand the question??? i said "this sounds like it should be BBV" in my post.
is it the right raise/amazing trap and odds for foldingly-challenged or should i push or what? |
Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
the question is ... being a squeaky tight midget is it correct to open raise and get cold called for 10 and some semblance of pot size control... or not played with at all because it's like "hey, there's AA or KK"
or is the limp/raise option better for getting money in the middle. |

with $100 effective stack it isn't

Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
a)LRR with 50BB is fine.
b)raise 6BB, get 4 callers. flop is 30BB. then you can bet call. both are fine IMO. 1st probably less variance (you will only get 1 caller, not 4 probably) |
Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
I personally like this play at 1/2nl. I don't use it all that often, but it does work.
If, however, there is a 5/10nl reg sitting, I raise a lot wider range than aa/kk/ak. For ex, I'll pick two or three SCs and a one-gapper to add to limp/calling in EP and raise with them from LP. I think that most live 1/2NLers are not able to narrow someone that w/t to AA/KK PF so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even if they are, having a 50BB stack all of the time won't phase them stacking off with JJ or AK. Most of the time, the regs in my 1/2NL game have 250BB+. |
Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
What is bad about your play is that you"re always playing the same hands it the same way. Use some variance and sometimes, Open bet with these hands. You can also do it with other hands like 72o just to foul everyone.

Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
i play a live 1/2 with a max BI of 80 and i almost never slowplay those hands. ur situation sounds alot like my normal live game all ppl see me showing down is AA, KK QQ and AK, AQ i still make a fair profit. dont limp under the gun with AA and KK every time, just enough to make them cautious of what ur holding.

Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
Dear OP,
I think your problems are that you are underbankrolled, you do not understand the concept of EV, you are predictable, and you overestimate your poker skills. |
Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
lol, live full ring $100.
Can we move this to the cynicism and mockery forum? (bbv) |

Re: am i playing this incorrectly? it\'s cost me alot of money lately
conclusion: you're all right... i'm a squeaky underbankrolled midget. i play tight and get murked by donks who crush me cuz i'm too good for them
definitely not undereducated tho... just poor and playing on someone elses money when i go to casino. and trying to not get money bad then pushing makes me lose. i do open 45s and stuff like that too... and pocket 6's and AA ... but in ridiculously loose aggro games, the limp RR is a proven get it in the middler.... ah variance |

guy who is high stakes regular (5/10 NL) for this casino asks me if i have AA or KK again cuz he's saw me do this 2 or 3 times w/ those hands on the table... i give off a false tell of weakness (shifting in chair uneasy a bit) he cold calls AK... [/ QUOTE ] Ignore everybody who is telling you that you're playing wrong. Are you maximizing your value? No. Are you squeezing every last BB out of the table with your approach? No. Is your technique +EV? Yes. Absolutely. Extremely +EV. Without any doubt. You describe two hands where you get all-in postflop for 50 BBs with KK or AA against hands that are drawing to two or three outs. That means you're putting most of the money in as a better-than-90% favorite. You got unlucky twice -- shake it off and keep doing what you're doing. To those who say this is horrible: this is LIVE PLAY. Your advice is ridiculous because you're failing to take into account the true table conditions. It sounds like most of you either never play live or have completely forgotten what live play is like. Playing live $1/$2 NL is like playing online mid-stakes play money tables. The typical Party Poker $10NL player from two years ago could beat the snot out of the typical live $1/$2 NL player. Sure, hero's plays are absolutely transparent to even the most simple-minded opponents. Luckily, these opponents aren't even THAT simple-minded. Remember, open-pushing AA preflop is only bad IF YOU DON'T GET CALLED. Hero's play is just fine if he can get away with it, and he can. Just look at the highlights of his post: - UTG+1 raises to $7 and gets two cold calls. - A ten-handed table has SEVEN LIMPERS PREFLOP. These aren't anomalies or strange "once in a rare while" occurances -- these are things that happen frequently in live play, especially at bad non-Vegas places. No, hero's play is perfectly acceptable given the table conditions -- surrounded by non-thinking non-observant live monkeys. Only one part of the original post really stood out as problematic to me: [ QUOTE ] i'm running bad lately and it sucks when i borrow 100 or 200 to play and lose it to stuff like this [/ QUOTE ] You need a bankroll. If you're playing with borrowed money, you're not ready to play. Take some cash online, play at the $10NL tables, run up your cash until you've got $1000 or so, THEN go back to your live casino and nit it up. You'll play better and you'll tilt less, and the losses won't be so soul-crushing to you. |
