Home Game Robbed, 1 Dead

http://www.wftv.com/news/14348754/detail.html

If you are going to host a home game where there is going to be this much cash atleast hire an armed private bodyguard so something like this doesn't happen.

Ugh. What a disaster.

Cards painted on the driveway? Sheesh.

When our home game stepped it up to a 2/5 game, we made sure to watch ourselves in terms of advertising and such, even though it's not a ton of cash. Lots of dumb people out there who would do some dumb stuff over a few grand.

Investigators said it's possible the homeowner could face charges, depending on how high the stakes were during Monday night's poker game.

"In Florida, you can have penny ante game up to $10 per hand and it's perfectly legal, so we're not sure how much they were gambling dollar-wise, but we're looking into that also," said Sgt. Michael Brouillette, New Smyrna Beach Police.

Good job guys, forget about the murder investigation, find out what stakes they where playing so you can get these dangerous poker players behind bars!

one could assume after the first time ur house gets robbed cause of a card game that measures might be taken to prevent it from happening again.

but what do i know?

Thought: If a poker game was robbed and a player was killed, it is a fair assumption that they were playing for more than $10 per hand..?

New Smyrna Beach police are desperately trying to find two masked men responsible for a fatal home invasion at a house known for gambling.

They can't be that hard to find. They are wearing masks for god's sake.

There was a game robbed here where I live at a couple of months ago. Thankfully no one was hurt but they did go in with shotguns and one of the robbers started to freak out when his mask came off but the other guy with him was at least smart enough to tell the guy to calm down since they had the money. B/c of this I quit playing a my usual home game at the country club b/c they didn't offer any security at all. Just about every game will either get busted or robbed eventually when word gets out. And there have been a lot of both happening this year in NC.

It's a good thing the police are going to make sure those criminal card players get what's coming to them. I wouldn't even bother going after the thief/murderer the ones running the card game probably deserved it.

dude it says 10 dollar ante which means everyone has to put that amount in the pot no matter what, so 10 x 10 = 100 and probably 20-40 or 25-50 blinds imo

definitely tragic but who the hell paints cards on their driveway? they might as well have left a cookie-crumb trail of franklin's leading to the poker game from the neighborhood's nearest liquor store...

Not if you hire an actual protective agency - ex. Bodyguards for movie stars, ex-military etc. Or you could even hire Blackwater, although they would claim you shot at them and kill everyone.

Up to $10 per hand maximum.
Nowhere does it say $10 ante.
Whether it's $10 per bet maximum or no pot can exceed $10 I'm not sure.

Try not to read so much into a guy being quoted in the newspaper who is just using the term "penny ante game" as a way of saying "playing for pennies".

When he says "penny-ante game all the way up to $10 per hand" it's kind of obvious he does not mean a high-ish stakes game nor should you make some weird attempt to take whatever some random Florida Sgt's phrasing is and then try to find loop-holes.
