Somehow I got it to glitch and got past that first huge column so I could beat the level. I'd still like to know how to do it normally, though.

This is fun, I got stuck on 15. I knew what to do but for some reason my guy never wanted to jump over the last gap. I finally slowed down and he made the jump... On to 16...

Fall through the portal in the ground. It will then drop you from the ceiling. While you are falling, shoot another portal into the ground (below where u are about to land) and land in it on the way down (there should be 2 portals in the ground) It should launch you up and you can clear the pillar. </font> |

Wait.. WTF is it that game says before it starts. Something about valve not contacting the original game creators? If that's what it says, that's complete BS. It goes by too fast for my drunk mind to process atm, but if that is what it says, it's simply not so. Valve hired the team behind Portals after a mere 20 minute demo of their game. I have an extreme hardon for this game, Portals, and it's the only reason I'm buying Orange Box. HL2:E2 is a bonus for me.

shoot portal where orb is bouncing. shoot portal up where you want orb to go. close portals. shoot portal above button. shoot portal at floor. run out.

Shoot the other portal on the ground floor on the far right, kinda below where the up arrow is pointing. Get a running start and jump in the ground portal, and if you were going fast enough you'll shoot out the top left with enough momentum get onto the top of the box. Stop there, and then jump directly into the ground floor portal, and that will shoot you out of the top left with enough momentum that you can do a quick jump on the box and fly over to the door. Kinda confusing to explain but that should work. </font> |

My orbs last 27 seconds, too, but I don't know how you can do it in 21 given your setup, especially since you have the portals on the bottom floor facing opposite where you need them to be.
Here's how it works for me: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/7159/portal1zu9.jpg Here's my initial setup. I'm in perfect position to step off the switch and slip through the portal leftwards so I land precisely on Switch #2. Even with this, I never have enough time to hit that switch before the orb bounces off Barrier #2. I always have to wait for it to bounce off Barrier #1 first. Notice also that the cursor is primed for exactly where I'm shooting the new yellow portal when I get on the other side of the wall. http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8595/portal2fg6.jpg And here I am. As soon as the orb crosses the barrier, I'm in the slipstream to the right so I can land perfectly on Switch #4 and set up the finale. http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/9805/portal3ic5.jpg And here I am when it explodes. Generally it makes it farther than that, usually to just under where I stand, but for this one I cost myself some time setting up the screenshots. |

Then shoot a portal directly beneath you and you are done. </font> |

i just tried it 4 more times and it took me 20s, 21s, 21s, and the last time it took me 18s using your setup. maybe your orb moves slower somehow?

and cmon, 35 was way easier than 6. Took me like 2 tries after I knew which buttons open which door.

I know its not hard to figure it out and that the initial challenge lies in beating the clock, but wow. I didnt think about when to put which portals where. Guess I was really lucky then and the second try was coincidently "perfect". |

[/ QUOTE ] You're probably making it way harder than it needs to be. Just get yourself in the room on the bottom white corner (easy by shooting a portal through the blue crack). Shoot an orb on the ground floor of the bottom right room directly under the orb's home, then shoot an orb outside the room using the blue crack. Drop through the ground floor orb. Then shoot one single portal directly on the ground beneath where the orb is bouncing up a down, making sure to shoot a different color portal than the one that's currently in the bottom right room (easy using Q or E key), and voila. |

I think I shaved enough fractions of seconds off that I didn't have to wait for a bounceback. 39 is a bitch, but 38 was remarkably easy, at least for me. Or else I just found a shortcut. |
