BEAT: Re-tard got re-elected. Although grammatically humourous, mcsquinty will get to ruin this province for another 4 years.

Wasn't ever really in doubt though was it? Hampton is a solid politician and well respected by his peers in both parties but he's a New Democrat - after the Rae fiasco that won't be happening again anytime soon.

I'm not a conservative but I actually like John Tory as an individual. He presents as sincere and likely would have done a decent job but ran one of the worst campaigns in provincial history.

This one was basically handed to the libs.

Ya Tory had it won until that stupid funding religious schools thing he brought up, plus the rest of his campiagn sucked too.

We already have a few of those - Rememberance day, for example.

Family Day is a stat holiday for all, or will be once the law passes.

[ QUOTE ]

Statutory holidays (also referred to as general or public holidays in many statutes) are days of special significance that have been
established by governments to commemorate or celebrate certain events, usually of a religious or historical nature. Every jurisdiction in
Canada provides for a number of statutory holidays, of national or regional importance, through its employment or labour standards
legislation. Employees who meet qualifying requirements are entitled to a paid holiday or, if they are required or agree to work, to the
payment of wages at a premium rate for work performed.

[/ QUOTE ]

so if you work full-time you get a paid holiday

Gild,

Is this just a government workers and bank holiday or are private employer required to give employees a paid day off?

Horacewinsagain 10-12-2007 02:05 PM

Re: brag: Family Day

Yeah I mean these things get kinda confusing. Here is a good case. I work for the state government as a contractor to the federal government. My office is in a federal facility and all of my supplies are owned by the federal facility. On Monday I got the day off, but many people who contract for the same state organization didn't have the day off because California as a state doesnt celebrate Columbus Day, while the Federal govt does.

Gilfwulf,

So does Canada have holidays similar to other US holidays like Christmas (celebrated Dec 25) and New Year's Day (Jan 1)? Is either Celine Dion's or Shania Twain's birthday a holiday? Do Canadians eat moose on Thanksgiving instead of turkey?
